La diócesis de Granada en la visita ad limina de 1685

Abstract

Periódicamente los obispos tenían que cumplir la obligación de visitar las basílicas romanas y de exponer ante el Papa la situación de sus diócesis y las gestiones realizadas. Documentos importantes en estas visitas ad limina son las relaciones del estado de la diócesis. Cada una de ellas y todas juntas permiten observar genéricamente la evolución de las iglesias locales. La visita de 1685, siendo arzobispo de Granada Ríos y Guzmán, presenta interesantes datos sobre la estructura diocesana, el clero parroquial, la situación general de la ciudad y religiosidad de los> fieles. Es, además, la visión de conjunto que se pretendía ofrecer a la Curia romana.

The bishops had the duty of visiting the roman basilicas and explain to the Pope the situation and management of the different dioceses from time. The official records of the diocese’s situation were important documents in these limina visits. Each one of these documents, as well as their compound, let us observe the evolution of local churches. The visit that took place in 1685, when the archbishop of Granada was Rios y Guzman, gives us a very interesting information about the diocesan structure, the parish clergy, the general religious state of the city and faithfuls. It’s also related to the vision, as a whole, they wanted to give to the roman Curia.
