Las sesiones literarias (mayalis) en la poesía andalusí y su precedente en la literatura simposiaca griega

Abstract

La cultura griega dejó múltiples huellas en la civilización árabe, tanto en las artes como en la vida social. Una de estas huellas, donde más claramente se advierte la influencia greco-helenística, se da en las sesiones literarias (mayalis) en las cuales los intelectuales árabes durante la Edad Media (tanto en Oriente como en al-Andalus) se reunían para beber y gozar de los placeres de la vida, hablar de política, de filosofía o improvisar y recitar poemas. Este hecho social que tiene como resultado un género poético muy característico, la jamriyya, tiene un claro precedente en el symposion griego donde se dan las mismas circunstancias y elementos sociales y literarios que luego van a aparecer en el maylis árabe.

The Greek culture left numerous traces in the Arabic civilization, as much in the arts as in social life. One of the these traces, where we can observe the clearest greekhellenistic influence, took place in the literary sessions (mayalis) where the Arabic intellectuals, during the Middle Ages (as in the East and in the West) met to drink and enjoy life's pleasures, speak about politics, philosophy or improvise and recite poems. This social fact resulted in a very characteristic poetic genre, the jamriyya, that has a clear precedent in the greek symposion where can be seen the same circumstances and social and literary elements that will later appear in the Arabic maílis.
