Las facciones cortesanas ante la expulsión de los Moriscos

Abstract

La historia de los moriscos en la península Ibérica ha sido estudiada exhaustivamente y su evolución, hasta su expulsión en 1609-1610, ha sido articulada y explicada con precisión por los grandes historiadores. Parece como si ya no se pudiera decir nada nuevo sobre tal minoría. Sin embargo, un análisis de los grupos de poder que gobernaron la Monarquía hispana durante los reinados de Felipe II y Felipe III demuestra que las facciones que tomaron la decisión de la expulsión ya en el reinado de Felipe II, no fueron las mismas que llevaron a cabo tan drástica medida en el reinado de su hijo; al contrario, fueron sus oponentes políticos. Tal contradicción permite abrir una línea de investigación nueva y una revisión de las asentadas teorías sobre la evolución de esta minoría.

The history of the Moriscos in the Iberian Peninsula, has been studied thoroughly and its evolution until their expulsion in 1609-1610, has been expressed and explained with detail by the important historians. It seems a if nothing new could be told about this minority. However, an analysis of the groups of power which ruled the Hispanic Monarchy during the reigns of Philip II and Philip III shows that the factions which already took the decision of the expulsion in the reign of Philip II, were not the same as those who carried out such a drastic measure in the reign of his son; on the contrary, they belonged to the opposing political group. This contradiction allows us to open a new line of research and a revision of the well established theories about the evolution of this minority.
