Precursores de la antropología criminal

Abstract

A finales del siglo XIX aparece en España la antropología criminal de la mano del krausismo que sintetiza los dos paradigmas hegemónicos del momento, a saber, el Positivismo y el Evolucionismo. Fueron naturalistas, médicos y juristas los que se interesaron en dilucidar cuestiones como la animalidad del ser humano y la particularidad de sus atributos a la hora de comprender el comportamiento humano. En este entorno científico, prestaremos especial atención a los estudios sobre el ambiente social de los delincuentes realizados por Rafael Salillas y su labor institucionalizadora de la antropología criminal. En el siglo XX nos centraremos en las aportaciones realizadas por Julio Caro Baroja para fijar el estatuto epistemológico de esta disciplina.

In the late nineteenth century in Spain the criminal anthropology emerged from Krausism, which synthesised the two hegemonic paradigms of the time, namely Positivism and Evolutionism. Naturalists, doctors, and lawyers were interested in elucidating issues such as the animality of the human being and the particularity of its attributes in understanding human behaviour. In this scientific sphere, we pay special attention to studies made by Rafael Salillas on the social environment of criminals and his institutionalizing work of criminal anthropology. In the 20th century we focus on the work of Julio Caro Baroja to set the epistemological status of this discipline.
