Compartir los datos de investigación: introducción al data sharing

Abstract

Se analiza el movimiento conocido en el mundo científico como data sharing, consistente en compartir los datos finales de investigación entre los científicos, con el objetivo de maximizar esfuerzos y recursos. En primer lugar, se revisa el concepto de datos de investigación y las dificultades técnicas que plantean según la disciplina de la que provengan. Se examinan las motivaciones, el origen del movimiento data sharing y la magnitud que está alcanzando dentro de la comunidad científica mediante la creación de repositorios y bancos de datos, planteando retos tanto técnicos como sociales. A continuación, se estudian las iniciativas y las políticas editoriales que las agencias financiadoras y las revistas científicas están llevando a cabo para incentivar esta práctica. Finalmente se examina el impacto que este cambio en los hábitos de los investigadores tiene dentro de la profesión bibliotecaria, dando lugar a la aparición de nuevos perfiles profesionales.

The emergence in the scientific community of an initiative known as data sharing, consisting of sharing research data among researchers and aiming to maximize efforts and resources, is analysed. First, the concept of research data and the related technical difficulties depending on the discipline are reviewed. We also examine the motivations, origins and growth of this movement, which has had an important impact on the scientific community’s behaviour through the creation of repositories and data banks, raising both technical and social challenges. Then we discuss leading funding agencies’ initiatives and scientific journals’ editorial policies promoting these practices. Finally, we examine the impact these major changes in researchers’ habits have for librarians, including the emergence of new professional profiles
