Abstract

Desde la conquista han existido estereotipos y prejuicios sobre los mapuche. El retorno a la democracia en Chile propició un contexto favorable a la emergencia del movimiento social mapuche sobre las reivindicaciones históricas, generando múltiples respuestas por parte de sectores políticos, sociales y económicos en las regiones del Bio Bio y La Araucania, que han concentrado las movilizaciones indígenas. Estas movilizaciones han sido contrarrestadas por el Estado chileno con militarización de territorios indígenas y judicialización como mecanismo de resolución. Lo que hasta los años setenta fue la cuestión mapuche pasó a ser llamado conflicto mapuche, dando lugar a la emergencia de nuevos estereotipos: los mapuche son violentos y terroristas, al tiempo que reaparecieron otros característicos de los siglos XIX y XX.

Since the conquest have been stereotypes and prejudices about the Mapuche.
