Todo quiere manifestarse por las manos. Vida, reescritura y archivo en “Leprosorio (Éxodo)”, de Reinaldo Arenas

Abstract

El siguiente ensayo reflexiona sobre las relaciones entre cuerpo, corpus literario y archivo en la escritura terminal de Reinaldo Arenas. Para ello, se concentra en el movimiento de la fuga en tanto impulso vital (en la vida así como en la obra) para proponer que el escritor diseña un plan de escape que va del cuerpo enfermo de sida al corpus saludable, y del corpus saludable al archivo. Se propone, además, que la sobrevida en el archivo está posibilitada por la astucia del autor, quien recrea (y enrarece) las condiciones carcelarias en el archivo, por ser estas las que le enseñaron a tramar los sucesivos escapes que lo mantuvieron con vida. Con el análisis del poema “Leprosorio (Éxodo)” (1990) a partir de las estrategias de reescritura y contacto se fundamentan las ideas anteriores, al tiempo que explica cómo Arenas se restituye su humanidad en el archivo.

The following essay reflects on the relationships among body, literary corpus, and archive in the terminal writing of Reinaldo Arenas. To this end, it focuses on the movement of flight as a vital impulse (both in his life and work) to argue that the writer devises an escape plan that moves from the AIDS-stricken body to a healthy corpus, and from the healthy corpus to the archive. It further proposes that survival within the archive is made possible by the author's cunning, as he recreates (and renders strange) carceral conditions within the archive, since these were the conditions that taught him to plot the successive escapes that kept him alive. Through an analysis of the poem "Leprosorio (Éxodo)" (1990), grounded in strategies of rewriting and contact, the essay substantiates these claims while also explaining how Arenas restores his humanity within the archive.
