La parte del león: vizcaínos en la disputa por el comercio con Buenos Aires (1720-1750)

Abstract

O artigo analisa o conflito levantado desde 1737 no Señorío de Vizcaya, quando os deputados gerais reuniram se em Bilbao e decidiram pedir ao rei autorização para estabelecer uma empresa comercial privilegiada em Buenos Aires. O plano foi questionado por diferentes entidades (da cidade de Buenos Aires, a cidade de Bilbao, Encartaciones de Vizcaya, o Consulado de Lima, os Cargadores de Cádiz), cujos interesses foram expostos e desafiados na corte de Filipe V. O texto proposto tem como objetivo explorar a complexidade do conflito, especialmente enfatizando os arranjos políticos e sociais da monarquia hispânica composta ou agregadora e o papel dos diferentes atores em seu governo.

This article analyses the conflicts arisen in the Biscay Seigniory since 1737, when the general deputies gathered in Bilbao decided to ask the King for permission to establish a privileged company of commerce with Buenos Aires. The plan was brought into question by different corporate bodies (the city of Buenos Aires, the village of Bilbao, Las Encartaciones, the Consulate of Lima, the Cadiz shippers to the Indies). Their interests were set forth challenged and defended at the Court of Philip V. The article aims at exploring the complexity of this confrontation, particularly focusing on the political and social devices used by the Hispanic compound or aggregative monarchy and the role played by some of the government agents.
