Tres biografías latino medievales de San Desiderio de Viena (Traducción y Notas)

Abstract

In the following pages we have tried to offer to the interested reader a translation of three hagiographical biographies, from the original Latin text into Spanish. These biographies, written in the Latin Middle Ages, deal with the life and passion of Saint Desiderius, bishop of Vienne (ob. 606 or 607). Saint Desiderius' hagiographical biography was told by three different authors, over several geographical and chronological circumstances, and with various finalities and motivations, as from an ideological point of view as from a literary perspective. These three biographical text are: 1.- The Vita vel Passio Sancti Desiderii a Sisebuto rege composita; 2.- The Passio Sancti Desiderii episcopi et martyris, a piece of work written by an anonymous monk of Vienne (s. VIII?); 3.- The Passio Sancti Desiderii episcopi Viennensis, written by Ado, bishop of Vienne (ob. 875 a.C.).

En las páginas que siguen hemos tratado de ofrecer al lector interesado una traducción del texto original latino al español de tres biografías hagiográficas. Estas biografías, escritas en la Edad Media latina, tratan sobre la vida y la pasión de San Desiderio, obispo de Viena (ob. 606 ó 607). La biografía hagiográfica de San Desiderio fue relatada por tres autores diferentes, en circunstancias geográficas e históricas distintas, y con diversas finalidades y motivaciones, tanto desde un punto de vista ideológico como desde una perspectiva literaria. Estos tres textos biográficos son: 1º.- La Vita vel Passio Sancti Desiderii a Sisebuto rege composita; 2º.- La Passio Sancti Desiderii episcopi et martyris, obra de un monje anónimo de Vienne (¿s. VIII?); 3º.- La Passio Sancti Desiderii episcopi Viennensis, escrita por Adón, obispo de Vienne (ob. 875 d.C.).
