Abstract

The publication "Visual Retrospective" documents the solo exhibition of the artist from Jaén, María Dolores Gallego, held at the Sala de Exposiciones - Casa de la Música in Torreperogil (Jaén) from September 3 to October 28, 2022, curated by Francisco Torres Torres (Archaeologist and researcher of the MEDEA Arqueología y Patrimonio Group), and as part of the official program of the national MAV 2022 Biennial. The exhibition offers a retrospective journey through Gallego's artistic production from 2008 to 2022, highlighting the evolution of her works and the constant hybridization between painting, drawing, and textile techniques. It features a selection of works from her most emblematic projects such as “Animales Hilvanados” (2009-2012), “Textiles Alhambrescos” (2013-2015), “Cuerpos Coloreados” (2018), “Vítores Abstractos” (2021), and “Incerteza Viva” (2021-2022), where she explores site-specificity, the expansion of the pictorial support, reflection on contemporary uncertainty, textiles as materials intrinsic to contemporary art, as well as fashion or inherited heritage as inspiration. The catalog includes critical texts by Belén Mazuecos (artist and Professor of Painting at the University of Granada - UGR) and Ana García López (Senior Lecturer in the Department of Drawing at the UGR and Director of the Chair in Innovation in Crafts, Design, and Contemporary Art – CIADA), which underscore her dual profile as an artist and researcher (PhD in History and Arts from the UGR), her transdisciplinary approach, her commitment to a gender perspective, and the reclamation of craftsmanship. It also details her extensive exhibition history, awards, artistic grants, and the presence of her paintings in public and private collections, both national and international.

La publicación "Retrospectiva Visual" documenta la exposición individual de la artista jiennense María Dolores Gallego, celebrada en la Sala de Exposiciones - Casa de la Música de Torreperogil (Jaén) del 3 de septiembre al 28 de octubre de 2022, comisariada por Francisco Torres Torres (Arqueólogo e investigador del Grupo MEDEA Arqueología y Patrimonio), y como parte de la programación oficial de la Bienal MAV 2022 de carácter nacional.

La exposición ofrece un recorrido retrospectivo por la producción artística de Gallego desde 2008 hasta 2022, destacando la evolución de sus obras y la constante hibridación entre la pintura, el dibujo y las técnicas textiles. En ella, se presentan una selección de obras de sus proyectos más emblemáticos como “Animales Hilvanados” (2009-2012), “Textiles Alhambrescos (2013-2015), “Cuerpos Coloreados” (2018), “Vítores Abstractos” (2021) e “Incerteza Viva” (2021-2022), donde explora lo site-specific, la expansión del soporte pictórico, la reflexión sobre la incertidumbre contemporánea, los textiles como materiales propios del arte contemporáneo, así como la moda o el patrimonio heredado como inspiración.

El catálogo incluye textos críticos de Belén Mazuecos (artista y Catedrática de Pintura de la Universidad de Granada - UGR) y Ana García López (Profesora titular del Departamento de Dibujo de la UGR y Directora de la Cátedra en innovación en Artesanía, Diseño y Arte Contemporáneo – CIADA), que subrayan su doble perfil como artista e investigadora (Doctora en Historia y Artes por la UGR), su enfoque transdisciplinar, su compromiso con la perspectiva de género y la reivindicación de lo artesanal. También se detalla su extensa trayectoria expositiva, premios, ayudas a la creación y la presencia de sus pinturas en colecciones públicas y privadas, nacionales e internacionales.
