La memoria del patrimonio industrial. Trazas para las nuevas infraestructuras de la energía

Abstract

This text is developed around a main idea: the interpretation, from an architectural point of view, of the spatial need demanded by the new energy infrastructures —be it capture, accumulation or distribution— in their implementation in industrial heritage. A need that delves into the origin of some architectures whose image has been, to a large extent, the result of their demanding infrastructural requirements. To deepen this idea, the research has focused on a very specific case study, the San Isidro sugar factory in Granada (BIC). It is an important witness of the industrial past of the city whose recovery by the University of Granada has opened up a new opportunity to rethink the way in which current energy demands can build their own landscape, a hybrid public space that combines infrastructure and building becoming a timeless place halfway between tradition and modernity, between an already abandoned use and the new activity to be developed.

Este texto se desarrolla en torno a una idea principal: la interpretación, desde la arquitectura, de la necesidad espacial demandada por las nuevas infraestructuras de la energía —ya sea captación, acumulación o distribución— en su implantación en el patrimonio industrial. Una necesidad que ahonda en el origen de unas arquitecturas cuya imagen ha sido, en gran parte, resultado de sus exigentes requerimientos infraestructurales. Para profundizar en esta idea, la investigación se ha centrado en un caso muy concreto de estudio, la Azucarera de San Isidro en Granada (BIC). Se trata de un importante testigo del pasado industrial de la ciudad cuya recuperación por parte de la Universidad de Granada ha abierto una nueva oportunidad para repensar el modo en el que las actuales demandas energéticas pueden construir un paisaje propio, un espacio público híbrido que aune infraestructura y edificación constituyéndose en un lugar atemporal a medio camino entre tradición y modernidad, entre un uso ya abandonado y la nueva actividad a desarrollar.
