Cuando la naturaleza narra. Espacios y sujeto en Tierra de campeones de Diego Zúñiga

Abstract

Tierra de campeones (2023), la más reciente publicación del escritor chileno Diego Zúñiga, recoge la figura del campeón nacional de caza submarina, Raúl Choque, ficcionalizado en la historia de Chungungo Martínez. Situada en el norte chileno, durante las décadas del 1960 y 1970, la novela se sumerge en la vida y actividad del buzo, prestando especial atención a la conexión del personaje con su ambiente. Son estos momentos de la narración, cargados de lirismo y profundidad, los que dejan entrever la relevancia del vínculo entre sujeto, espacio y narración. Sobre la triada cuerpo, entorno y poética, el presente artículo explora precisamente la noción de habitar que aúna ser y espacio. Desde una aproximación fenomenológica y geopoética, analizamos el modo en que la configuración de los espacios del río, mar y desierto operan tanto en la construcción del ser del personaje como del entramado narrativo.

Tierra de campeones (2023), the most recent publication by Chilean writer Diego Zúñiga, is based on the figure of the Chilean spearfishing world champion, Raúl Choque, fictionalized in the story of Chungungo Martínez. Set in northern Chile during the 1960s and 1970s, the book delves into the life and activity of the diver, paying special attention to the individual’s connection with his environment. Is in these narrative moments, charged with lyricism and depth, that reveal the relevance of the link between individual, space and story. On the triad of body, surroundings and poetics, this article explores precisely the notion of inhabiting that unites human being and space. From a phenomenological and geopoetic approach, we analyze the way in which the configuration of the spaces of the river, sea and desert operate in the construction of the character’s being and the book’s narrative framework.
