Resumen
The creation of up-to-date databases is key to understanding labor markets. Having accurate information on their evolution allows for the planning of effective interventions to address current labor market challenges. Today, tools like big data have multiplied our analytical capabilities.
In a society where employment remains a fundamental pillar, we need reliable measurement instruments that promote equality and social integration. To this end, the sociology of work draws on economics, using international standards that facilitate the comparison of data across countries and time periods.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) is responsible for standardizing these metrics (generally percentage rates). In the Spanish context, the main tool is the Labour Force Survey (EPA), conducted by the National Statistics Institute (INE) since 1964. In the following sections, we will detail the fundamental concepts and the most relevant databases for studying the labor market.
