Ver, oír, tocar… ¡sentir! Frederick Kiesler y la galería de Peggy Guggenheim: una escenografía expandida

Abstract

Este artículo constituye un análisis de la intervención de Frederick Kiesler para la galería de arte de Peggy Guggenheim, Art of This Century, desde la perspectiva de la “escenografía expandida”, una propuesta teórica y crítica que busca examinar las posibilidades de la escenografía más allá del teatro. Basándonos en tales premisas conceptuales tratamos de demostrar cómo el interés por la estimulación sensorial, el tratamiento de distintos elementos escénicos como la luz o la atmósfera, así como la importancia de la interacción entre la galería y los usuarios convirtió este espacio expositivo en toda una experiencia vital e integral, donde el arte se veía, se oía, se tocaba, pero, sobre todo, se sentía.

This article constitutes an analysis of Frederick Kiesler’s intervention for Peggy Guggenheim’s art gallery, Art of This Century, from the perspective of “expanded scenography”, a theoretical and critical proposal that seeks to examine the possibilities of scenography beyond of the theater. Based on such conceptual premises, we try to demonstrate how the interest in sensory stimulation, the treatment of different scenic elements such as light or atmosphere, as well as the importance of the interaction between the gallery and the users, turned this exhibition space into a complete experience. vital and integral, where art was seen, heard, touched, but above all, felt.
