Belleza Sostenible: Pensar el Diseño del Paisaje desde la Estética del Cuidado

Abstract

This article addresses the defence that E.K. Meyer made in 2008 of the role that beauty and aesthetics can play in the sustainability agenda, specifically through landscape design. Meyer argued for the capacity of aesthetic experience to make us aware of how our actions affect the environment and to encourage us to act accordingly. My argument aims to show the theoretical support that the aesthetics of care, with which Y. Saito explores the transformative power of the aesthetic in everyday life, provides to Meyer’s proposal and how it enables her to respond to some of her critics

Este artículo aborda la defensa que E.K. Meyer hizo en 2008 del papel que la belleza y la estética pueden jugar en una agenda sostenible, en concreto, a través del diseño arquitectónico del paisaje. Meyer afirmaba la capacidad de la experiencia estética para tomar conciencia de cómo nuestras acciones afectan al medioambiente y actuar en consecuencia. Mi argumento quiere mostrar el sustento teórico que la estética del cuidado, con la que Y. Saito explora la capacidad transformadora de lo estético en la vida cotidiana, presta al planteamiento de Meyer y le permite responder a algunos de sus críticos.
