Apaches francesas en suelo neutral. Transgresiones femeninas en la Bohemia española de la Gran Guerra (1914-1918)

Abstract

En el presente estudio se profundizará en la figura de las “apaches”, mujeres oriundas de la criminalidad de los bajos fondos del París de principios del pasado siglo, con el objeto de analizar cómo se permeabilizaron en la España de la Gran Guerra, y hasta qué punto influyeron en la construcción identitaria de sus congéneres españolas. Estas mujeres transpirenaicas sentaron las bases del modelo de la Mujer Moderna, el cual no sólo se nutriría de la imagen cultural de la garçonne, sino también de aquellas libertades preconizadas por estas tránsfugas de Bohemia. En un ufano ambiente de modernización en el país neutral, entre influjos estéticos y transgresiones conductuales catequizadas por las apaches francesas, se fueron forjando nuevas libertades que configuraron una identidad vindicadora que, pese a su maculada cornucopia de desafuero y perversión, sirvió para abrir conciencias de la existencia de otras realidades a las que las mujeres también podían acceder.

In this study, we explore the “Apache” women who originated in the criminal underworld of Paris at the turn of the twentieth century. The study objective was to analyse how they penetrated Spain during the Great War, and the extent to which they helped to build their fellow Spaniards’ identity. These trans-Pyrenean women laid the foundations of the Modern Woman model, which would not only be nourished by the cultural image of the garçonne, but also by the freedoms advocated by these Bohemian defectors. On neutral Spanish soil, in a climate of self-assured modernisation, these French Apache figures catechised and forged novel freedoms, ranging from aesthetic influences to behavioural transgressions. They shaped a vindictive identity which, despite its tarnished cornucopia of lawlessness and perversion, served to make women aware of other realities that were within their reach.
