Emociones en el arte político contemporáneo: ira, pena y empatía

Abstract

Este artículo reflexiona sobre papel moral y político que tres emociones muy distintas, la ira, la pena y la empatía, juegan en determinados géneros o formas, igualmente diferentes, dentro del arte político contemporáneo. De esta manera, se pretende mostrar su contribución al significado de obras y proyectos en la medida que las emociones integran la dimensión estética del arte. Pero, sobre todo, se enfatiza su relevancia para un posible impacto social, a la vez que se amplía el registro de lo que suele entenderse por arte político, más allá del activismo, y se reivindica el rol de emociones consideradas “blandas”, incluso “femeninas”, en lo que se ha consolidado ya como una transformación del régimen emocional del arte contemporáneo.

This article reflects on the moral and political role that three different emotions (anger, grief and empathy) play in also rather different forms of political contemporary art. Thereby, the paper tries to show their contribution to the meaning of artworks and projects, insofar as emotions integrate the aesthetic dimension of art. But, most of all, their relevance for any social impact of art is emphasized. Furthermore, the range of what is usually understood as political art is broadened beyond artistic activism, and emotions for a long time considered “soft”, even “feminine”, are vindicated as part of what is already confirmed as a transformation of the emotional regime of contemporary art.
