Formas de la Protesta Ambiental Campesina

Abstract

La Historia Social se ha centrado preferentemente en el estudio de la protesta de clase, típicamcnte industrial. de ruiz urbana y con formas de comportamiento predecibles desde la racionalidad moderna. La crisis de la propia sociedad industrial, la emergencia de nuevos actores sociales, de nuevas formas de expresión de la protesta y de sus contenidos, ha tenido su reflejo en la crisis que sufre en la actualidad la Historia Social. Por otro lado, el protago- nismo creciente que la lucha por los recursos naturales tiene en la actualidad, gracias al movimiento ecologista, ha facilitado la emer- gencia de los conflictos ambientales como objeto historiográfico. Todo ello ha hecho posible que se vuelva la mirada, entre otras, hacia aquellas manifestaciones de protesta que tienen una racionalidad y formas de organización distintas y unos objetivos que muchas veces contradicen aparentemente la idea ilustrada de progreso social. Dentro de este tipo de conflictos es donde debe enmarcarse la protesta generada en torno a los recursos naturales y al medio ambiente. Ciertamente en buena parte del mundo ha existido una amplia corriente historiográfica que se ha centrado en los “pueblos sin historia”, en los colectivos sociales aparentemen- te menos “modernos”, en los sujetos sociales que quedaron silen- ciados por la modernidad historiográfica.

Social history has focused mainly on the study of class protest, typically industrial, of urban ruiz. and with forms of behaviour predictable from modern rationality. The crisis of industrial society itself, the emergence of new social actors, new forms of expression of protest and its contents, has been reflected in the current crisis of social history. On the other hand, the growing prominence of the struggle for natural resources, thanks to the environmental movement, has facilitated the emergence of environmental conflicts as a historiographical object. All this has made it possible to turn our gaze, among others, towards those manifestations of protest that have a different rationality and forms of organisation and objectives that often seemingly contradict the Enlightenment idea of social progress. It is within this type of conflict that the protest generated around natural resources and the environment should be framed. Certainly in much of the world there has been a broad historiographical current that has focused on the ‘peoples without history’, on the apparently less ‘modern’ social collectives, on the social subjects that were silenced by historiographical modernity.
