Resumen
The article concerns the study of the word formation field of the Russian concept “water” with onomatopoeic
verbs. Water is very important for the formation of Russian culture due to geographical and historical conditions. The
onomatopoeic verbs represent the most ancient human point of view on natural elements, including water. The old
derivative base for forming a word can be lost and only etymological dictionaries indicate its connection to water. Each
onomatopoeic verb tends to be the nucleus of the family of words. It enables the word formation field thereof to be
analyzed. The microfields can be distinguished within this word formation field. Their limits are not often determined
clearly because the formative types interact with each other at morphemic and semantic levels. Besides, these verbs can
develop their semantics, expressing new meanings with the help of metaphorical transferences.
