Interés y vigencia de los fraseologismos recogidos por Juan de Iriarte (1774)

Abstract

En el presente trabajo, además de recordar la importancia para los estudios de fraseología de Refranes castellanos traducidos en verso latino (1774), obra del humanista y latinista canario Juan de Iriarte, representante de la Ilustración española, nos ocupamos del recorrido histórico y la vigencia del grupo de somatismos con barba recogidos en ella. A tal fin y partiendo de los estudios de fraseología y, concretamente, de la investigación en el ámbito de los somatismos, hemos extraído manualmente las unidades fraseológicas somáticas que allí aparecen, clasificándolas por el somatónimo que incluyen. Luego, hemos aislado los fraseologismos con barba y establecido grupos teniendo cuenta el valor semántico y simbólico que este elemento somático representa. Seguidamente hemos analizado, sirviéndonos de la bibliografía pertinente y de los corpus de referencia del español, algunas de estas unidades para verificar su empleo en la actualidad. Por último, concluimos que la mayor parte de las unidades con este lexema somático se encuentra en desuso, entre otros motivos, porque la simbología subyacente ya no se condice con los actuales valores culturales.

In this paper, in addition to recalling the importance for phraseology studies of Refranes castellanos traducidos en verso latino by the Canarian humanist and Latinist Juan de Iriarte, representative of the Spanish Enlightenment, we deal with the historical background and the validity of the group of somatisms with barba (‘beard’) collected in this work. To this end, and starting from the studies of phraseology and, specifically, from the research in the field of somatisms, we have manually extracted the somatic phraseological units that appear there, classifying them by the somatonym they include. Then, we isolated the phraseologisms with barba and established groups taking into account the semantic and symbolic value that this somatonym represents. Next, we have analyzed, using the relevant bibliography and Spanish reference corpora, some of these units to verify their current use. Finally, we conclude that most of the units with this somatic lexeme are in disuse, among other reasons, because the underlying symbolism is no longer in line with current cultural values.
