Primer libro impreso en Filipinas. Una traducción

Abstract

La polémica sobre si antes de 1593 existía o no imprenta en Filipinas ha sido mucha y larga. Los expertos en bibliografía de las Islas están de acuerdo en afirmar que no existía. El trabajo que presentamos demuestra que el primer libro impreso en Filipinas fue la Doctrina cristiana tagalo-española, impresa por los Padres Dominicos en su imprenta de Manila el año 1593. Su autor fue el franciscano Juan de Plasencia.

The controversy over whether there was a printing press in the Philippines before 1593 or not, has been many and long. Bibliography experts on the Islands agree that it did not exist. The work we present demonstrates that the first book printed in the Philippines was the Tagalog-Spanish Christian Doctrine, printed by the Dominicans in their printing press in Manila in 1593. Its author was the Franciscan Juan de Plasencia.
