Bilal Sarr. Ulemas y ascetismo en Madinat Ilbira en Al-Tasawwuf bi l-Magreb wa-l-Andalus / Misticismo en el Magreb y al-Andalus

Abstract

En este trabajo se pasa revista a la Historia de la ciudad de Medina Elvira a partir de las fuentes escritas, especialmente de la vida y actividad de los ulemas. El análisis y la interpretación de las fuentes contrastadas con lo que se sabe hasta el momento de la ciudad nos evoca la presencia de alquerías, espacios periurbanos que jalonaban los alrededores de Elvira y que estaban directamente a la misma. Es alló donde los ulemas se darían a las tendencias ascéticas que mencionan con frecuencia los diccionarios biográficos, pero no hay que olvidar que estas fincas, 'almunias' o posesiones serían espacios de producción agrícola que en manos de estas élites les permitiría vivir cuando menos holgadamente y marcar la diferencia con respecto al respto de elvirenses, espacios sin los que no se comprendería la realidad social, económica y cultural de Madinat lIbira.

This paper reviews the history of the city of Medina Elvira from written sources, especially the life and activity of the ulemas. The analysis and the interpretation of the sources contrasted with what is known up to the moment of the city evokes the presence of farmhouses, periurban spaces that marked the surroundings of Elvira and that were directly to the same one. It is there where the ulemas would give themselves to the ascetic tendencies that the biographical dictionaries frequently mention, but it is not necessary to forget that these farms, 'almunias' or possessions would be spaces of agricultural production that in the hands of these elites would allow them to live at least comfortably and to mark the difference with respect to the rest of the elvirenses, spaces without which the social, economic and cultural reality of Madinat lIbira would not be understood.
