Señales de vida: apelación y vulnerabilidad en las postales, de Frank Báez

Abstract

The collection of poems "Postales" (Postcards, 2008) by the Dominican writer Frank Báez traces a link between two spaces, making the near and the distant reversible. From one to the other there is a constant wandering. A search for shelter that can never materialise. As if the poet were a migratory creature, condemned to movement and at the same time mobilising. In fact, it may be that the space of poetry emerges during the very action of the word, that is, by means of a performative route. Báez's dedication to spoken word is therefore not surprising. Every performance gives rise to its own stage and dissolves it when it ends. Otherwise it could be said that a poem is always the place of apparitions. And that these postcards not only point to the places where the sender stumbles, but above all they open a place for them.

El poemario "Postales" (2008) del escritor dominicano Frank Báez traza un vínculo entre dos espacios, volviendo reversibles lo próximo y lo distante. De lo uno a lo otro hay un constante deambular. Una búsqueda de cobijo que nunca puede concretarse. Como si el poeta fuera una criatura migratoria, condenada al movimiento y a la vez movilizadora. De hecho, puede que el espacio de la poesía surja durante la propia acción de la palabra, o sea, por una vía performativa. No es extraña, por ello, la dedicación de Báez al spoken word. Toda performance hace surgir su propio escenario y lo disuelve cuando termina. De otra manera podría decirse que un poema es siempre el lugar de las apariciones. Y que estas postales no solo apuntan a los lugares por donde da tumbos quien las envía, sino que sobre todo hacen sitio.
