In this Chapter, we focus on the measurement of QoL in Europe, considering that QoL is a latent concept that can be studied as a formative measurement model. That is, QoL is assumed to be defined by a set of indicators, both: i) objective or social indicators that reflect people’s objective circumstances in each cultural or geographical area, and ii) subjective well-being indicators that instead reflect an individual’s judgment of their well-being. Our main aim is to show the utility of applying a fuzzy set approach in this framework, using micro-data collected through survey data.; En este capítulo, nos centramos en la medición de la calidad de vida en Europa, considerando que la calidad de vida es un concepto latente que puede estudiarse como un modelo de medición formativo. Es decir, se supone que la calidad de vida está definida por un conjunto de indicadores, ambos: i) indicadores objetivos o sociales que reflejan las circunstancias objetivas de las personas en cada área cultural o geográfica, y ii) indicadores de bienestar subjetivos que reflejan el juicio de un individuo sobre su vida. su bienestar. Nuestro principal objetivo es mostrar la utilidad de aplicar un enfoque de conjuntos difusos en este marco, utilizando microdatos recopilados a través de datos de encuestas.

En este capítulo se analiza la estructura espacial del bienestar en Andalucía (España). Para ello, estudiamos el bienestar a nivel local utilizando datos municipales, desarrollamos un índice compuesto de bienestar basado en el enfoque de capacidades y las tendencias recientes en bienestar, y estudiamos la autocorrelación espacial. Nuestras principales conclusiones son que el bienestar de un municipio se ve afectado por el bienestar de los municipios vecinos. Por lo tanto, las políticas públicas deben tener en cuenta que tanto la historia como el espacio importan en términos de calidad de vida.; This chapter the spatial structure of well-being in Andalusia (Spain). To this end, we study well-being at the local level using municipal data, develop a composite index of well-being based on the capabilities approach and recent trends in well-being, and study spatial autocorrelation. Our main conclusions are that the well-being in a municipality is affected by the well-being in neighboring&#13;

Este trabajo estudia empíricamente las relaciones entre factores económicos y de bienestar social, y el comportamiento electoral en Andalucía. Para ello, trabajamos con los resultados electorales de 771 municipios andaluces para todas las elecciones celebradas desde el año 1982 en el que se celebraron las primeras elecciones al Parlamento de Andalucía (23 de mayo).  La información se ha obtenido de la base de datos Sistema de Información Multiterritorial de Andalucía (SIMA) del Instituto de Estadística y Cartografía de Andalucía (IECA). Para elaborar un índice compuesto de bienestar social por municipios y unidades territoriales hemos confiado en el método DP2. Con este enfoque hemos estudiado el comportamiento electoral de los andaluces y las andaluzas, evaluando el peso de los distintos  factores  socioeconómicos  de  los  municipios  en  el  voto  en  el  ámbito  municipal.  Ello  permite,  además,  contrastar  las  distintas  explicaciones  que  pueden  darse respecto al declive electoral de ciertos partidos y al aumento de apoyos de otros.; This work empirically studies the relationships between economic and social well-being factors, and electoral behavior in Andalusia. To do this, we work with the electoral results of 771 Andalusian municipalities for all elections held since 1982, when the first elections to the Parliament of Andalusia were held (May 23). The information has been obtained from the Andalusian Multiterritorial Information System (SIMA) database of the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA). To prepare a composite index of social well-being by municipalities and territorial units, we have relied on the DP2 method. With this approach we have studied the electoral behavior of Andalusians, evaluating the weight of the different socioeconomic factors of the municipalities in the vote at the municipal level. This also allows us to contrast the different explanations that can be given regarding the electoral decline of certain parties and the increase in support of others.

Fighting child poverty is desirable to foster the sustainability of the social well-being for coming generations and, in addition, to ensure equality of opportunities for all children. Using panel data methodology, this work analyses the association between child poverty and government social spending in the 28 Member States of the European Union during the last economic crisis (2008-2014). We confirm that the government social spending as a whole, as well as the government spending on education and health negatively correlated with child poverty during the economic crisis, while government social protection spending did not it. That is to say, within the context of economic crisis in which European Union displayed policies to ensure sustainability of public finance, reductions in social spending and increases in child poverty could be associated.

In recent decades, the Member States of the European Union have witnessed two international crises: the economic-financial crisis that began in 2008 and the COVID-19 crisis in 2019. Consequently, both poverty and income inequality have increased. Regarding public policies to help overcome these crises, macroeconomic policies of a different cut are observed. Even though the Europe 2020 Strategy had recognized the European Union as a social market economy, to overcome the economic crisis of 2008 it was decided to consolidate public finances to control the public deficit and debt. However, in the COVID-19 crisis, the European Union has opted for an expansionary economic policy to reduce the intensity and duration of the crisis. This study analyses the most remarkable changes introduced in the European Union since the 2000s, as well as the evolution of poverty, extreme poverty, and income inequality. Likewise, two composite indexes were built in 2019 for each Member State: one of human development according to the socio-economic context of the European Union, and another index of governance reflecting the degree of compliance with the European values of freedom, political stability, and Rule of Law. The main objectives are, firstly, to analyse the connection between poverty and income inequality with the economic cycle and the public policies carried out; and secondly, to study the position of the 27 Member States in 2019 to deal with the negative effects of COVID-19. The results allow the Member States to be classified into four typologies, as well as discussing which are better prepared for the next challenges.
