<description>Body Cult in Contemporary Societies: Sport, Self-image and Health
Valdera Gil, Juan Miguel; Valdera-Gil, Francisco Javier
More and more citizens of contemporary societies worry about being healthy, one’s self- image or keeping in good shape. The aim of this chapter is to study the factors which underpin current human practices under the banner of ‘body worshipping’. In the first section we posit that the ‘cult of the body’ could be understood as a set of social practices rooted in production and consumer society. This is analysed in the second section from the perspectives of Postmodern and Post-Fordist societies’ theories. In the third section, a well-known Spanish television programme is used as a springboard to reflect on the different manifestations of body worshipping present in contemporary societies. Finally, the last section offers some thoughts about some of the consequences of the body cult, such as the diversification of sport practices or the tension between the commodified aesthetic standard of what a perfect body should look like versus the growing obese population. The section closes by looking at some examples of state intervention in health promoting policies.

<description>Circularidad migratoria entre Ecuador y España. Transformación educativa y estrategias de movilidad
Vega Solís, Cristina; Gómez Martín, Carmen; Correa Álvarez, Ahmed
El patrón migratorio entre Ecuador y España ha experimentado transformaciones desde el inicio de la crisis de 2008. A la ralentización de los flujos hacia España y el incremento de retornados ecuatorianos, se suma hoy la migración de españoles cualificados hacia este país para insertarse en educación superior, así como la salida de jóvenes ecuatorianos para adquirir títulos de posgrado en España y, en general, en Europa. El contexto de crisis y desempleo en educación en España, así como las políticas de reforma educativa que se están llevando a cabo en Ecuador se articulan en la conformación de esta circulación entre ambos países. A través de una metodología cuantitativa y cualitativa multisituada, basada en una encuesta y en entrevistas en profundidad, el presente artículo estima el volumen de estos desplazamientos y explora las motivaciones, condiciones y estrategias que los están influenciando.; The migration pattern between Ecuador and Spain has&#13;

Los discursos y regulaciones establecidos sobre la migración en uno y otro caso muestran evidentes conexiones entre ambos proyectos políticos y sus pretensiones de perdurabilidad.; Despite the scarcity of comparative academic literature, there exists a close relationship between Cuba and the Western Sahara. is connection was carved during the Cold War, by means of the assistance, respect and shared position oered in the face of social emancipation processes. is article reects on the implications of the mobility and migratory control policies of these two experiences that, despite their geographic separation and distinct histories, developed political projects based on the construction of egalitarian societies under the socialist ideology. e established migration discourses and regulations in the two cases show clear connections between both political projects and their steadfastness.; Apesar da escassez de trabalhos acadêmicos comparativos, existe uma estreita relação entre Cuba e o Saara Ocidental.

<title>Local Ties as Self-Reported Constraints to Internal Migration in Spain</title>

<description>Local Ties as Self-Reported Constraints to Internal Migration in Spain
Thomassen, Jonne AK; Palomares Linares, María Isabel; Venhorst, Viktor A; Mulder, Clara H
The internal migration literature has identified various factors that deter migration and encourage staying, but has been less concerned with people’s own reports about what makes it difficult for them to migrate or makes them want to stay. We explore factors that make it difficult to change the place of residence—from here on denoted as constraints—reported in the Spanish survey on Attitudes and Expectations of Spatial Mobility in the Labour Force (N = 3892). These constraints were uniquely asked from all respondents through an open-ended question, regardless of their migration intentions. We find that many self-reported constraints correspond to factors that have previously been associated with decreased migration propensities. In order of frequency, respondents reported ties to family and friends, ties to their residential environment, financial limitations, and ties to work as constraints to migration. Our results further show that the likelihood of mentioning ties to family and friends as constraints decreased with age, was higher for women than for men and for people who lived close to most of their social network than for those who did not. Mentioning ties to the residential environment as constraints was positively associated with being partnered, and also with living in one’s birthplace. People who were unemployed were less likely to mention ties to work and were more likely to report financial limitations as constraints than people who had a permanent contract—whereas being self-employed was positively associated with mentioning ties to the residential environment.
