<title>Encarnación Megías Manzano and the Female Teacher Training College of Granada (1898–1948)</title>
<link>https://hdl.handle.net/10481/112052</link>
<description>Encarnación Megías Manzano and the Female Teacher Training College of Granada (1898–1948)
Reyes Ruiz de Peralta, Natalia
The Teacher Training College (Escuela Normal) of Granada has been scarcely researched from &#13;
the perspective of the history of education. This paper examines its history by reviewing the &#13;
personal file of Professor Encarnación Megías Manzano, who taught at the institution from &#13;
1898 to 1948. She joined after receiving an award from La Sociedad Económica de Amigos &#13;
del Pais for her essay “Women´s Education”, and her file includes various merits and &#13;
commendations. Then the Female Teacher Training College (Escuela Normal de Maestras) &#13;
paralleled the social and political situations that plagued the city of Granada during the first &#13;
half of the 20th century. This investigation followed the historical-educational method, &#13;
reviewing the personal files of this and other teachers who worked during the period &#13;
investigated, as well as secondary sources on historical education. This paper, with a gender &#13;
perspective, concludes how the Teacher Training College, through its faculty, facilitated gaps &#13;
in the city of Granda had the opportunity to be modified through the roles played by successive &#13;
directors and teachers at the Teacher Training School.; La Escuela Normal de Granada ha sido escasamente investigada desde la historia de la &#13;
educación. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo acercase a su historia desde la revisión del &#13;
expediente personal de la profesora Encarnación Megías Manzano, que ejerció desde 1898 &#13;
hasta 1948 en dicha institución. Ingresó tras haber sido premiada por la Sociedad Económica &#13;
de Amigos del País por el escrito “La educación de la Mujer” y en su expediente se recogen &#13;
diferentes méritos y felicitaciones. La entonces Escuela Normal Superior de Maestras tuvo un &#13;
recorrido en paralelo a las situaciones sociales y políticas que recorrió la ciudad de Granada &#13;
durante la primera mitad del S. XX. Esta indagación ha seguido el método histórico-educativo, &#13;
revisando el expediente personal de esta y otras profesoras que ejercieron durante el periodo &#13;
investigado, además de fuentes secundarias históricos educativas. Este trabajo con perspectiva &#13;
de género concluye cómo la Escuela Normal, a través de su claustro, posibilitó fisuras en el &#13;
modelo tradicional impuesto en la educación de las mujeres. Los modelos femeninos &#13;
establecidos en la ciudad de Granada tuvieron la oportunidad de modificarse a través de los &#13;
roles que jugaron las sucesivas directoras y profesoras de la Escuela Normal de Maestras.

Adolescence is established as a critical period for the onset of substance use and addictive behaviours. Sports participation can act as a protective factor that coexists with risk and protective variables. This study aims to analyse the association between habits, risk perception and lifetime and annual alcohol consumption and gambling at distinct stages of adolescence and to establish risk profiles. Cross-sectional study with the participation of 914 federated footballers selected by cluster sampling. Data on sociodemographic characteristics, consumption, risk perception and habits were collected. Descriptive analyses, χ2, principal component analysis, K-means and ordinal logistic regressions were performed. Two main components were extracted that explained 54.3% of the variance (KMO = 0.69). Four clusters were obtained, showing transitions between them. The WLE and AWU variables were established as risk factors for consumption (OR &gt; 1), while the protective risk perception variables (OR &lt; 1) varied according to the stage and consumption analysed.

Despite the progress made in recent decades, sexism is a prevalent problem today and has permeated society at a systemic level, including education. This study seeks to analyse the perception of sexism by senior secondary school teachers and trainee teachers. The research was carried out using qualitative methodology, using a semi-structured interview as a data collection instrument. The analysis consisted of the collection of teachers’ experiences for subsequent evaluation and comparison. The results obtained describe similarities between the groups in the perception of sexism in the classroom, but distinguish the justification behind sexist behaviour, and make explicit the lack of specific training for teachers in both groups in the area of sexism in science. These results point to the perceived need for more comprehensive training on sexism among secondary school teachers, according to the experiences and interpretations reported by the participants.

University dropout is a problem that affects all universities around the world. It is multidimensional and multicausal in nature. The consequences of a student dropping out affect them not only financially but also in terms of their self-perception. In this article, an analysis of in-depth interviews was carried out to determine what motivations students have when leaving classrooms to provide solutions to the new cohorts that enter. The sample consisted of 21 students, including 14 men and 7 women, from different Andalusian universities. A logical minimization analysis was carried out, showing the necessary implications for each of the subjects who participated. Afterwards, frequency and percentage analyses were carried out for each of the dimensions that made up the interview, with success in primary education having the lowest percentage (4.7%) and academic orientation having the highest percentage (90.47%).
