<title>Awareness On The Management Of Iatrogenic Arterial Nicking During Dental Surgical Procedures Among Dental Students</title>
<link>https://hdl.handle.net/10481/80038</link>
<description>Awareness On The Management Of Iatrogenic Arterial Nicking During Dental Surgical Procedures Among Dental Students
Akshaya, K.; Pandurangan, Kiran Kumar; Ahmed, Nabeel; Ganapathy, Dhanraj; Maiti, Subhabrata
Background: Bleeding during surgery may be a serious clinical problem which will be very&#13;
disconcerting to the patient and will have serious consequences. During the course of nearly all kinds&#13;
of surgery, blood vessels are going to be disrupted, causing some bleeding. The dentist should be&#13;
aware of all techniques of hemorrhage control for various sorts of bleeding episodes—small vessels,&#13;
large vessels, oozing, drug-induced, or when an underlying coagulation defect is present. Bleeding&#13;
complications can occur in healthy also as systemically compromised patients.&#13;
Aim: The aim of the current study is to analyse the awareness and knowledge on the management of&#13;
iatrogenic arterial nicking among dental undergraduate students.&#13;
Materials and Methods: The study was a cross-sectional questionnaire study. Survey was designed&#13;
as a questionnaire in English with 2 sections. Section 1 contained demographics and section 2 had&#13;
questions on various techniques on management of arterial injury, which was answered by 150 dental&#13;
undergraduate students. All the obtained data were entered on Microsoft excel sheet and analysed&#13;
using SPSS by IBM.&#13;
Results: From the statistical analysis it is clear that almost 75% of the respondents from final year and&#13;
internship were aware of different methods of management and prevention of dental injuries, yet&#13;
only minimal number of students from other three years were aware of the methods and procedures&#13;
to be followed at each step during dental surgical procedures,&#13;
Conclusion: Within the limitations of the current study, it can be concluded that the majority of&#13;
dental undergraduate students are aware of different methods of presentation and management of&#13;
iatrogenic arterial nicking during dental surgical procedures. In the present study the knowledge on&#13;
the methods of management such as mobilisation, deep sutures, burnishing of bone, use of bone&#13;
grafting was lacking among first to third year students when compared to students pursuing their&#13;
final year and internship.

<title>Awareness about inhalation general anaesthetics among dental students</title>
<link>https://hdl.handle.net/10481/80037</link>
<description>Awareness about inhalation general anaesthetics among dental students
Bharathi, Alagu Rathi; Rakshagan, V.; Ganapathy, Dhanraj M.
Introduction: General anesthesia is a state of medically induced coma or unconsciousness. General&#13;
anaesthetics are drugs that render a patient unresponsive and unconscious, so that the patient is&#13;
unaware of surgery and does not move or feel pain while it's being carried out. The anaesthetic agent&#13;
is administered through an intravenous line or the anaesthetic agent may be inhaled through a&#13;
breathing mask or tube. Inhalation anesthetics are also known to be found in two forms, gaseous&#13;
anesthetics and the volatile anaesthetics. The volatile anesthetics are liquids at room temperature and&#13;
need vapourizers to make it suitable for the inhalation purposes.&#13;
Aim:The present study aimed to assess the knowledge and awareness on inhalation anaesthesia&#13;
among dental students.&#13;
Materials and Methods: The present study is an online based survey conducted among the dental&#13;
students.The participants were from 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th years of BDS. Questionnaires were&#13;
prepared and distributed among dental students through an online link from the survey planet.&#13;
Results and Discussion: About 62% of the students were well aware of inhalation general&#13;
anaesthesia. 55% of the students were aware of nitrous oxide as inhalation general anesthetics. From&#13;
the results of the survey it is clear that most of the dental students were well aware of inhalation&#13;
general anaesthesia and also had proper knowledge about its complications.

<title>Knowledge, Attitude And Perception Of Ropivacaine Usage In Prosthodontics</title>
<link>https://hdl.handle.net/10481/80031</link>
<description>Knowledge, Attitude And Perception Of Ropivacaine Usage In Prosthodontics
Sunar, Srijan; Rakshagan, V.; Ganapathy, Dhanraj M.
Introduction&#13;
The success of a minor oral procedure relies on the efficiency of the local anaesthetic and the dexterity of&#13;
the operator. Local anaesthetic with an extended duration of action, good analgesia, and negligible&#13;
toxicity is an optimal choice. A common standard option is 2% lignocaine hydrochloride with adrenaline&#13;
(1:80,000). However, lignocaine is not recommended for long procedures or in patients with&#13;
cardiovascular compromise.Various clinical trials have suggested other options, one of which is&#13;
ropivacaine.The aim of the survey was to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of ropivacaine in&#13;
prosthodontics.&#13;
Materials and methods&#13;
An online questionnaire based cross-sectional study was conducted during 1st July to 12th July 2021,&#13;
among undergraduate and postgraduate dental students of Saveetha Dental College. An online&#13;
questionnaire survey which consisted of 17 questions, was circulated among the dental practitioners&#13;
(n=100) within the city based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study and the response was&#13;
subjected to analysis.&#13;
Results&#13;
According to the survey 88.89% of the participants are aware that Ropivacaine falls under long acting&#13;
amide link. According to the survey 55% of the participants think lidocaine is the most commonly used&#13;
Local anaesthesia followed by ropivacaine 35%. About 92 % of the participants think Ropivacaine is&#13;
better than bupivacaine due to its less lipophilic and have a significantly higher threshold CNS toxicity.&#13;
According to the survey 85% of the participants think 14 minutes is the half life of ropivacaine followed&#13;
by 2mins, 10mins, 4mins. Ropivacaine can be used in long prosthodontics procedures like FPD.&#13;
According to the survey 58% know the commercial name of ropivacaine whereas 31% don’t know the&#13;
commercial name.&#13;
Conclusion: Within the limitations of the study, the participants are aware of ropivacaine.

<link>https://hdl.handle.net/10481/80030</link>
<description>Knowledge, Attitude And Practice Of Dental Practitioners Towards Behavioural Management Of An Uncooperative Patient In Dental Office
Kaviya, S.; Sakthi, Sri
Background and aim&#13;
In the career of a dentist, they come across so many types of patients. Managing each patient's&#13;
temperament and gaining co-operation and trust is the key to any dentist patient relationship. Inorder&#13;
to practice from an empathetic point of view, any dentist should know how to deal with different&#13;
behaviour patterns, which ultimately leads to success in treatment outcome greatly.&#13;
Methodology&#13;
A total of 80 registered dental practitioners participated in the study. A pre - tested, 14 item&#13;
questionnaire was circulated among the dental practitioners. Only completely filled forms were taken&#13;
in for analysis. Data was transferred and analyzed using SPSS software (Version 23) Descriptive&#13;
statistics included frequency and percentage, A chi square test was done to analyze the association&#13;
and a P value of &lt; 0.05 was considered statistically significant.&#13;
Results&#13;
Final analysis was done using responses from 80 dental practitioners. On the whole, the knowledge,&#13;
Attitude and practice regarding behavioural management was found to be satisfactory. On the&#13;
contrary, the majority (67%) were unsure about managing an un co-operative patient. Majority of the&#13;
dentists suggest counselling (97.2%) as a preventive measure. Almost 72.5% of them did not prefer to&#13;
use nitrous oxide to sedate the patients.&#13;
Conclusion&#13;
This survey shows that the majority of dental practitioners were aware of patients perceptions,&#13;
preferences and fear towards dental treatment. Hence existing curriculum should give more&#13;
weightage in this context and regular continuing education programs should be organised.

<link>https://hdl.handle.net/10481/80028</link>
<description>The relative contribution of psychological stress and self-esteem in predicting intellectual extremism among university students
Abdel-Al Ibrahim, Khaled Ahmed
This research aimed to identify the role of the psychological pressure and the self-esteem in&#13;
predicting the intellectual extremism among university students. The sample of the study consists of&#13;
(150) including male and female, whose ages range from 19-21 years old. A descriptive methodology&#13;
was used as a kind of methodology. The researcher has developed the instruments of the study&#13;
which include the psychological pressure scale, the self-esteem scale, the extremism scale, and then&#13;
the psychometric features of these instruments were verified. The present study reached the finding&#13;
that the ratio of the psychological pressures among the sample participants is low, and the ratio of&#13;
self-esteem is high and the extremism ratio is low. The findings of the study also stated the&#13;
psychological pressures can be adopted in predicting the intellectual extremism. The regression&#13;
coefficient reached (2.705), which is statistically significant at the ratio of (0.008). The self-esteem can&#13;
be used to predict the intellectual extremism, as the regression coefficient reached 0.4.067, which is&#13;
statistically significant at the ratio of 0.004. The study has recommended preparing some programs&#13;
and training sessions that contribute to minimizing the psychological pressures among university&#13;
students and to enhancing their self-esteem, and to activating the role of the universities in raising the&#13;
awareness among the students about the threats of the intellectual extremism by increasing the&#13;
educational, cultural and recreational activities.
