<title>Evidence of Measurement Invariance of the Rating of Sexual Arousal Across Sex and Relationship Status</title>
<link>https://hdl.handle.net/10481/112653</link>
<description>Evidence of Measurement Invariance of the Rating of Sexual Arousal Across Sex and Relationship Status
Álvarez Muelas, Ana; Sierra Freire, Juan Carlos; Cervilla Sáez, Óscar
The Rating of Sexual Arousal is a scale that allows for the assessment of subjective&#13;
sexual arousal in specific contexts, such as a laboratory. It has been validated in the&#13;
Spanish population; however, considering its relevance due to its relationship with&#13;
important variables for sexual health, it is necessary to continue investigating its&#13;
psychometric properties to expand its use. Therefore, the aim of this study was to&#13;
examine its measurement invariance by sex (men vs. women) and relationship status&#13;
(being in a relationship vs. not being in a relationship). A total of 324 cisgender&#13;
heterosexual adults, aged 18-32 years (mean age 21.08 ± 2.83), participated in the&#13;
study. Participants answered the Sociodemographic and Sexual History Questionnaire&#13;
and the Spanish version of the Rating of Sexual Arousal after viewing a video with&#13;
explicit sexual content. The results indicated the equivalence of the measure at a strict&#13;
level and no significant Differential Item Functioning across items by sex and relationship status. No significant differences were observed in Rating of Sexual Arousal&#13;
scores across the sociodemographic variables evaluated; furthermore, these variables&#13;
did not significantly predict subjective sexual arousal. In conclusion, this study supports&#13;
the usefulness of the Rating of Sexual Arousal and its relative independence from sociodemographic variables, which highlights its applicability for research and clinical&#13;
practice.

<description>Exposure to different types of violence during childhood and adolescence: Risk factors for perpetrating intimate partner violence against women in early adulthood
Pérez Cámara, Noelia; Teva Álvarez, Inmaculada María; Pérez García, Miguel; Lozano Fernández, Luis Manuel; Hidalgo Ruzzante, Natalia Adriana
Purpose. Due to the prevalence and severity of Intimate Partner Violence against Women (IPVAW), there is a growing literature focused on understanding the risk factors for perpetrating it. The aim of the present study is to analyse whether exposure to IPVAW in the family of origin, experiencing childhood maltreatment, perpetrating and/or experiencing bullying, as well as being involved in antisocial behaviours during childhood and adolescence, increase the risk of male IPVAW perpetration in adulthood. Methodology. Data were extracted from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC). The sample consisted of 1,011 men from the general population, categorized into two groups: those who engaged in any form of IPVAW (psychological, physical, and/or sexual violence) (n = 163) and those who reported no violent behavior (n = 848) at 21.5 years old. Findings. Prevalence of IPVAW perpetration was estimated, and the percentages of the variables of interest among male IPVAW perpetrators were reported. The results showed that exposure to IPVAW in the family of origin, experiencing childhood maltreatment, perpetrating bullying, as well as being involved in antisocial behaviours during childhood and adolescence, increased the risk of IPVAW perpetration in adulthood. Originality. The findings could be useful in prevention programs. Additionally, they highlight the importance of including childhood and adolescent experiences of violence in intervention programs for male IPVAW perpetrators.

This study analysed the effects of a mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) on motivation, learning strategies and approaches, procrastination, and mindfulness in university students. Forty-two students (22 in the experimental group and 20 in the control group) participated in an experimental design with pre-test, post-test, and four-month follow-up measures. The results showed that the intervention was associated with a significant increase in deep motivation, deep learning strategies and approaches, and mindfulness levels, as well as an observed decrease in superficial motivation and strategies, and academic procrastination. The effects were maintained at the follow-up measurement, evidencing the stability of the changes. These findings indicate that mindfulness training appears to favour a more autonomous and self-regulated motivational profile, may promote deep learning, and tends to contribute to the reduction of maladaptive behaviours associated with studying, such as procrastination.; El presente estudio analiza los efectos de un programa de intervención basado en mindfulness sobre la motivación, las estrategias y enfoques de aprendizaje, la procrastinación y la atención plena en estudiantes universitarios.

<title>Parameters of masturbation: effects of gender and sexual orientation</title>
<link>https://hdl.handle.net/10481/112535</link>
<description>Parameters of masturbation: effects of gender and sexual orientation
Landaluce, Millán; Sierra Freire, Juan Carlos; Cervilla Sáez, Óscar; Sánchez Pérez, Gracia María
It has been proposed that the study of masturbation requires the&#13;
analysis of several parameters (i.e. age at first masturbation, negative attitudes towards masturbation, solitary sexual desire, current&#13;
frequency of masturbation and subjective orgasm experience). This&#13;
study examines the effects of gender and sexual orientation on&#13;
these parameters. A total of 1568 cisgender adults (493 heterosexual&#13;
men, 478 gay men, 490 heterosexual women and 107 lesbian&#13;
women) participated. The results indicate that, with respect to&#13;
gender, men, compared to women, begin masturbating earlier,&#13;
report more negative attitudes towards masturbation, experience&#13;
greater solitary sexual desire, and masturbate more frequently,&#13;
whereas women report a more intense subjective orgasm experience. In relation to sexual orientation, gay people, compared to&#13;
heterosexual people, initiate masturbation earlier. The results also&#13;
show that patterns differ between men and women depending on&#13;
their sexual orientation. Specifically, whereas gay men scored&#13;
higher than heterosexual people on solitary sexual desire, frequency of masturbation and subjective orgasm experience, lesbian&#13;
women reported lower scores than heterosexual women on these&#13;
variables. The roles of gender and sexual orientation in understanding masturbation are also discussed.

<title>Assessment of the Dark Triad in the Prison Population: A Meta-Analysis of Reliability Generalization</title>
<link>https://hdl.handle.net/10481/112478</link>
<description>Assessment of the Dark Triad in the Prison Population: A Meta-Analysis of Reliability Generalization
Suevos Rodríguez, Isabel; Burgos Benavides, Luis; Quevedo Blasco, Raúl Rubén; Rodríguez Díaz, Francisco Javier
This paper explores the reliability of assessment instruments used in the prison population to measure the Dark Triad, &#13;
a constellation of personality traits including machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy. A systematic literature &#13;
review was conducted using six databases, and 12 articles were selected according to the eligibility criteria. A Cronbach’s &#13;
alpha reliability generalization meta-analysis was carried out, which reported acceptable internal consistencies (≥ .70) for &#13;
all three subscales, with machiavellianism achieving the best estimated alpha, and good internal consistency (≥ .80) for &#13;
the Dirty Dozen, the most commonly used scale in this context. However, the paucity of studies, publication bias, and high &#13;
heterogeneity reflected in Cochran’s Q statistic and I2 index (≥ 75%) compromise the generalizability of the estimates and &#13;
underline the need to examine the which moderating variables that influence this variability.; Este trabajo explora la fiabilidad de los instrumentos de evaluación empleados en población penitenciaria para medir &#13;
la Tríada Oscura, constelación de rasgos de personalidad que incluye el maquiavelismo, el narcisismo y la psicopatía. Se &#13;
realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura en seis bases de datos, seleccionando doce artículos acordes a los criterios &#13;
de elegibilidad. Se llevó a cabo un metaanálisis de generalización de la fiabilidad de alfa de Cronbach, que mostró una &#13;
consistencia interna aceptable (≥ .70) en las tres subescalas, siendo el maquiavelismo el que mejor alfa estimada tenía y &#13;
una buena consistencia interna (≥ .80) en el Dirty Dozen, la escala más utilizada en este contexto. Sin embargo, la escasez de &#13;
estudios, el sesgo de la publicación y la gran heterogeneidad reflejada en el estadístico Q de Cochran y el índice I2 (≥ 75%) &#13;
ponen en peligro la generalización de las estimaciones y subrayan la necesidad de examinar qué variables moderadoras &#13;
influyen en esta variabilidad.
