The contamination of agriculture and food by microplastics constitutes a significant concern, posing substantial threats to both human health and the environment. Urgent remedies are imperative. This chapter discusses the source of microplastic contamination in agriculture, encompassing issues such as plastic debris accumulation in fields, improper plastic disposal practices, utilization of plastic mulch films, and irrigation with water sources contaminated by microplastics and pesticides. Furthermore, it delves into the mechanisms and pathways through which microplastics enter the food chain, elucidating their health implications on human beings. Innovative strategies aimed at mitigating microplastic contamination in both sectors are also presented. These include proposed measures for prevention, encompassing regulatory frameworks, alternative packaging materials, and enhanced waste management systems. The aim is to provide a roadmap for addressing microplastic contamination in these sectors, with a commitment to ensure environmental integrity and human safety within the framework of a circular economy paradigm.
