Luque Jiménez, Irene
This aim of this research is to provide information about any changes that
may occur in the strategies declared to solve oral production problems by future Primary
Education teachers of English as a foreign language, in accordance with Nakatani’s Inventory
of Oral Communication Strategies (2006). The participants are teacher training students
of English studying at the University of Granada (UGR), the University of Malaga (UMA)
and the Associated Teaching Centre María Inmaculada of Antequera (Málaga) (CAMMIA).
The data was taken at: at the beginning of the Mention of English and at its conclusion. In
this research, a descriptive study was carried out for the initial phase, since the number of
volunteer participants was greater than in the final sample. For the final sample, the results
were statistically analysed and compared. In two kinds of strategies, significant changes have
taken place however in the other types, no significant changes are evident. It could be concluded
that the Mention has contributed to these changes and perhaps, if specific instructions
had been included, it would have contributed to an even greater difference in the use of this
type of strategies between the beginning of the Mention and its ending.; El objetivo de esta investigación es aportar información sobre los cambios

profesional de los especialistas.; This article deals with the nature of the competence expectations achieved
by future teachers of EFL at early ages, in accordance with the rationale of professionalism
and career guidance. The awareness instrumented by the European Portfolio for Pre-primary
Educators (Goullier et al., 2015; 2020) is elicited. The utterances given by a significant sample
composed of future EFL teachers of four different years are analysed through thematic
content analysis and through categorization by adopting a descriptive-interpretive approach.
The results are interpreted according to the degree of importance attributed to the domains
and fields of competences established at European level, taking into account the semantic
characterization of the corpus of statements with regards to the professional skills. In so
doing, the results anticipate the panorama of a professional profile with imbalances between
the fields of competence. In this sense, critical key issues are found regarding the undeniable linguistic and cultural element in early EFL teaching. Furthermore, the results hint remediation
lines, which may reduce uncertainties of university trainers to manage adapted training
actions and optimise the professional development of EFL teachers.
Synthetic phonics in Spanish bilingual education: Spelling mistakes analysisAntropova, SvetlanaCarrasco Polaino, RafaelAnguita Acero, Juana Maríahttps://hdl.handle.net/10481/810812023-04-18T22:10:39ZSynthetic phonics in Spanish bilingual education: Spelling mistakes analysis

Reading and writing in English from early ages is both a need and a must. The
search of an effective learning methodology to teach early literacy has made the application
of the synthetic phonics method to expand, regardless of the lack of agreement concerning
its results. This study is aimed at showing whether this method is effective or not in bilingual
educational centres of Madrid (Spain), focussing on the written skills of 640 students,
aged 8-9. The errors committed in a 15-frequenly-used-word dictation have been classified
according to Corder’s taxonomy. The non-parametric statistic results show that there are differences
in the errors made by the students without specific method instruction (less errors)
compared to those students with synthetic phonics instruction. However, these differences
have lower level of association and do not indicate a relevant direction. Therefore, it could be
concluded that synthetic phonics does not seem to guarantee an efficient learning of spelling
for the Spanish students. There is a need to adapt the synthetic phonics method for learners
from bilingual schools, as well as to investigate the efficiency of other methodologies to

Palabras clave: Enfoque CLIL, translanguaging, inglés, Educación Primaria, didáctica.; implemented within subjects taught through the CLIL approach and the use of translanguaging
in relation to learning curricular contents and a foreign language (English) in a
plurilingual Primary Education School selected for this purpose. To meet these objectives, a
qualitative method has been chosen and a questionnaire and an interview have been designed
as research instruments. The data was analysed by coding the information into categories
and, after discussion, it is concluded that the results show that both the implementation of the
CLIL approach, and the use of translanguaging in the school under study correspond to what
the different authors mentioned in the literature they propose, despite the fact that certain
points of improvement can always be presented.
Test-taking strategy use by Chinese young EFL learners in an authentic international standardized English testHan, Feifeihttps://hdl.handle.net/10481/810792023-04-18T09:29:20ZTest-taking strategy use by Chinese young EFL learners in an authentic international standardized English test
Han, Feifei
The current study examined language test-taking strategies used by Chinese
young learners of English as a foreign language (EFLs) in an authentic international
standardized English test–Cambridge Young Learners English Test: Flyers Test. It adopted
a mixed-methods approach: the quantitative part was a survey administered to 138 participants,
and the qualitative part consisted of think-aloud sessions and retrospective interviews
with six participants (three were high-achievers and three were low-achievers). The quantitative
results show that in general, children adopted metacognitive test-taking strategies
more frequently than cognitive test-taking strategies irrespective of language skills; and the
high-achievers used test-taking strategies more frequently than their low-achievers. The twoway
interaction effects: levels of test performance-strategy type; and language skills-strategy
type; were also significant. The qualitative results demonstrate that the high-achievers not
only used a broader range of cognitive strategies than low-achievers, they also used the
same metacognitive strategies at an in-depth level and in a more sophisticated way than
low-achievers. The results of the study suggest that expanding Chinese young EFL learners’
repertoire of test-taking strategies and modeling desirable ways of using strategies may help
rendimiento.
