This presentation is a set of basic guidelines to help learners work on a new text type that they will be using when dealing with science texts as a part of their Introduction to Specialized Translation course. The contents of these guidelines come from training documents used by English-language journalists when they’re learning about press releases. The source materials come from people who are writing authentic English-language press releases.

You are expected to publish... in English. Of course, you can always write in Spanish and find a translator. But you know English, don't you? But... do you know enough English to produce a research paper that will overcome the obstacles of peer review? You can always find a reviewer/editor, but will you be able to write a text in English that is clear enough for them to understand? Let's look at some examples of what you should aim for and what to avoid.

The methodology by which any subject is taught has to be coherent with that applied when evaluating students; when this is not the case the educational process re-enacts the ancient rite of “the carrot and the stick”. The purpose of this paper is to propose steps towards the humanization of assessment that are based on a deep respect for the student and a desire to maintain the highest degree of transparency in the assessment process.
An Overview of the Linguistic Resources used in Cross-Language Question Answering Systems in CLEF ConferenceGutiérrez Artacho, JuncalOlvera Lobo, María Doloreshttps://hdl.handle.net/10481/475542021-06-23T06:57:15ZAn Overview of the Linguistic Resources used in Cross-Language Question Answering Systems in CLEF Conference

The development of the Semantic Web requires great economic and human effort. Consequently, it is very useful to create mechanisms and tools that facilitate its expansion. From the standpoint of information retrieval (hereafter IR), access to the contents of the Semantic Web can be favored by the use of natural language, as it is much simpler and faster for the user to engage in his habitual form of expression. The growing popularity of Internet and the wide availability of web informative resources for general audiences are a fairly recent phenomenon, although man´s need to hurdle the language barrier and communicate with others is as old as the history of mankind. The World Wide Web, also known as WWW, together with the growing globalization of companies and organizations, and the increase of the non-English speaking audience, entails the demand for tools allowing users to secure information from a wide range of resources. Yet the underlying linguistic restrictions are often overlooked by researchers and designers. Against this background, a key characteristic to be evaluated in terms of the efficiency of IR systems is its capacity to allow users find a corpus of documents in different languages, and to facilitate the relevant information despite limited linguistic competence regarding the target language.
