Este estudio analiza el grado de influencia de diversas características habitacionales —especialmente la capacidad restauradora del paisaje observado desde las viviendas— en el malestar psicológico generado en situaciones de inmovilidad domiciliaria. La metodología parte de una encuesta online realizada durante el confinamiento domiciliario ocasionado por la enfermedad por Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). En ella se consideraron variables espaciales como la localización, la amplitud de la vivienda y la valoración subjetiva del paisaje visible desde la vivienda. El análisis estadístico se estructura en tres niveles: primero, mediante tablas de contingencia y test chi-cuadrado, explorando asociaciones marginales y construyendo perfiles en función de variables demográficas y ambientales relacionadas con la presencia de sentimientos negativos; posteriormente, se emplea un árbol de decisión para detectar combinaciones de factores que explican patrones de respuesta complejos; finalmente, se ajusta un modelo de regresión logística múltiple para cuantificar los efectos individuales e interactivos mediante medidas de significación estadística y odds ratios. Los resultados muestran que las personas jóvenes y aquellas que no valoraban previamente las vistas desde su vivienda fueron las más afectadas en términos emocionales, mientras que el hecho de disponer de una vivienda más amplia ayudó a reducir ese impacto. Además, la valoración positiva del paisaje observado desde el domicilio está relacionada con una mayor restauración psicológica. Estas conclusiones refuerzan la importancia de la planificación territorial y del diseño urbanístico en la calidad de vida, destacando la necesidad de integrar el paisaje en las estrategias de ordenación del territorio y desarrollo urbano. La investigación aporta evidencia sobre cómo los elementos espaciales influyen en la percepción y el bienestar de la población, destacando el papel fundamental de la Geografía en el estudio de la interacción entre las personas y su entorno construido.; This study analyzes the degree of influence of various housing charac&#13;
teristics, especially the restorative capacity of the landscape observed &#13;
from within the home, on the psychological distress experienced during situations of residential immobility. The methodology is based on an online survey conducted during the &#13;
home confinement imposed by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The survey considered &#13;
spatial variables such as location, dwelling size, and the subjective assessment of the visible landscape from &#13;
the home. The statistical analysis is structured into three levels: first, contingency tables and chi-square tests &#13;
were used to explore marginal associations and to build profiles based on demographic and environmental &#13;
variables related to the presence of negative emotions; second, a decision tree was employed to identify &#13;
combinations of factors that explain complex response patterns; finally, a multiple logistic regression model &#13;
was applied to quantify individual and interactive effects using statistical significance measures and odds &#13;
ratios. The results show that young people and those who did not previously value the view from their home &#13;
were the most emotionally affected, whereas having a larger dwelling helped mitigate this impact. Further&#13;
more, a positive assessment of the landscape observed from the home is associated with greater psycho&#13;
logical restoration. These findings reinforce the importance of territorial planning and urban design in shaping &#13;
quality of life, emphasizing the need to integrate landscape considerations into territorial and urban develop&#13;
ment strategies. The research provides evidence on how spatial elements influence people’s perception and &#13;
well-being, highlighting the fundamental role of Geography in studying the interaction between individuals &#13;
and their built environment.

Los hallazgos resaltan la necesidad de coordinar acciones entre diferentes áreas administrativas para abordar de manera más efectiva el impacto del mal olor asociado a esta instalación.; The main objective of this study is to assess the extent of odor nuisance originating from the El Verde landfill site (León, Guanajuato, Mexico) in the surrounding areas and to estimate the potential discomfort associated with exposure to this odor. To achieve this, a methodology based on the combination of three basic odor dimensions is employed: intensity, duration, and frequency, which are integrated into two indices. The first, the “consistency index”, compares intensity and duration; the second, the “annoyance index”, weights the former according to frequency. The primary source of information was a direct survey of the local population, whose data were integrated into a GIS. The results, represented cartographically, show that the odor is perceived at distances of up to approximately 7 km. Likewise, a marked inequality is observed in the distribution of the annoyance indicator, with a greater impact on the urban area of León, located to the east of the landfill site. Subsequently, the possible causes explaining this result are analyzed, considering both physical and human factors. The findings highlight the need to coordinate actions across administrative areas to more effectively address the impact of the bad odor associated with this landfill.

In rural areas, limited economic resources for promoting cultural activities often constrain opportunities for leisure and social participation. In Andalusia (Spain), numerous women’s associations were founded in the late 1980s as a response to this scarcity and to the persistence of highly masculinised public spaces. Based on a qualitative fieldwork involving six focus groups, this study examines the role of rural women’s associations as spaces of leisure, rootedness and empowerment. Findings reveal how associational dynamics shape everyday practices that range from recreational and cultural activities to mutual support and social inclusion. By engaging in collective leisure, women transform these spaces into sites of social well-being and feminist agency, enabling the construction of new forms of visibility and citizenship in territories marked by depopulation and social isolation.

Since the creation of the European Higher Education Area in 2010, there has been a significant expansion of international training programmes across Europe. In this context, Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) have recently been introduced as part of the new generation of Erasmus+ programmes for the 2021–2027 period. This initiative promotes cooperation among universities from different countries by offering short-term learning experiences that combine a virtual component with an on-site phase. BIPs typically address innovative topics with a strong interdisciplinary dimension that are generally not integrated into the regular curricula of the participating universities.&#13;
&#13;
The aim of this chapter is to present and analyse the design and outcomes of the second BIP on landscape (BIP-GEO 2025), organised by three European universities: the University of Minho (UM), the University of Granada (UGR), and the University of Padua (UNIPD). This interdisciplinary programme, developed during the 2024/2025 academic year, focused on the study of landscape transformations in peripheral rural areas of southern Europe. With the University of Minho acting as host institution and coordinator, the BIP involved 27 undergraduate and master’s students from various degree programmes at the three partner universities.&#13;
&#13;
The design of the BIP was based on the experience gained in the previous edition (BIP-GEO 2024), coordinated by the University of Granada. The training programme was structured around a set of collaborative learning activities, both theoretical and practical, aimed at familiarising students with the current challenges and issues affecting peripheral rural landscapes. To this end, several international workshops—both virtual and on-site—were organised to facilitate interaction among students and academic staff from disciplines related to landscape planning and management at the three participating institutions.&#13;
&#13;
The BIP was organised into two phases:&#13;
&#13;
i) Virtual phase: Selected students participated in different training modules, engaged in thematic debates in international tandems, and developed a group research initiation project.&#13;
&#13;
ii) On-site phase (University of Minho): This phase included three field trips to rural areas in northern Portugal, focused on observing and reflecting on the challenges faced by peripheral rural areas and their planning and management needs. In addition, two sessions were devoted to the presentation and discussion of group projects, along with a lecture session delivered by specialists in the field.&#13;
&#13;
The coordinators plan to organise a new edition of the programme in Italy in 2026, building on the foundations established by the two previous editions of this international landscape training programme. By offering an international perspective, this BIP seeks to foster collaboration and the exchange of experiences among future landscape science professionals in southern Europe. It is hoped that this chapter will serve as inspiration for academic staff interested in designing and organising blended mobility programmes.

<summary type="text">An integrated assessment of heat hazard, vulnerability, and accessibility to climate shelter networks for identifying urban adaptation priority areas in Andalusia (Spain)
Castro Noblejas, Hugo; Sortino Barrionuevo, Juan Francisco; Vargas Molina, Jesús
Climate change is intensifying the effects of extreme heat, particularly in urban environments, posing a risk to public health and disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations. Urban climate shelters have emerged as a short-term adaptation measure, yet their deployment is often based on existing infrastructure and does not systematically respond to spatial patterns of heat hazard or social vulnerability. This study develops an integrated framework to assess the accessibility of climate shelter networks while explicitly accounting for territorial variations in hazard and population vulnerability. The approach combines hazards and vulnerability indices with network-based accessibility analysis to identify priority areas for intervention and urban adaptation planning. Applied to Andalusia (southern Spain), a Mediterranean climate change hotspot, the results reveal significant spatial mismatches between heat hazard and access to climate shelters, highlighting areas of compounded vulnerability. Results show that more than 50% of the resident population in Andalusia live in high or very high priority areas, considering hazard, vulnerability, and accessibility to climate shelters.
