abstract = {Florentine narrative sources (city chronicles, memoirs and travel diaries) are the richest of Italian Renaissance historiography. The present paper analyzes different aspects of navigation and life on board the Florentine merchant galleys, and its role in the city’s public image, through underused sources for the matter. As it will become evident, they offer rich particulars that the official sources do not provide, increasing the value of the data collected.},
