The use of biostimulants is becoming increasingly important to mitigate the effects of several stresses such as water deficit. The objective of this study is to assess the effects of the biostimulant Codasil® composed mainly of oligo/polypeptides, amino acids (AAs), Si, and K on lettuce growth, physiology, and water stress tolerance. For this aim, lettuce plants were grown under water deficit (75% of field capacity) and with the application of Codasil®. Parameters related to growth, oxidative stress, photosynthesis, pigment concentration, and proline metabolism were analyzed. The results showed that the biostimulant considerably enhanced plant growth under water stress conditions. Likewise, Codasil® reduced lipid peroxidation and H2O2 levels and protected photosynthesis performance. Besides, plants supplied with the biostimulant accumulated more Si and presented a lower Pro accumulation and a lower Pro metabolism induction. Altogether, this study confirms the usefulness of Codasil® as a biostimulant to mitigate the effects of water deficit}, organization = {Plan Andaluz de Investigación AGR282}, publisher = {Elsevier}, keywords = {Amino acids}, keywords = {Biostimulation}, keywords = {Drought}, keywords = {Photosynthesis}, keywords = {Proline}, keywords = {ROS}, title = {The application of the silicon-based biostimulant Codasil® offset water deficit of lettuce plants}, doi = {10.1016/j.scienta.2021.110177}, author = {Hidalgo Santiago, Laura María and Navarro León, Eloy and López Moreno, Francisco Javier and Arjó, Gemma and González, Luis Maria and Ruiz Sáez, Juan Manuel and Blasco León, Begoña}, }
