abstract = {La tesis “Retórica Contrastiva y Expresión Escrita: Evaluación y Estudio de Textos en Inglés y Español” se propone dos grandes objetivos: en primer lugar, revisar la línea de investigación conocida como Retórica Contrastiva desde una perspectiva crítica. En segundo lugar, profundizar en el estudio de las diferencias y similitudes entre textos escritos en inglés y en español, intentando averiguar si hay alguna relación entre el origen lingüístico-cultural de los escritores, los textos que producen y las calificaciones que obtienen. Para ello se tomó un corpus de textos escritos por estudiantes norteamericanos y españoles, de entre 17 y 18 años de edad. Los textos seleccionados eran textos argumentativos, expositivos y narrativos. Estos textos fueron evaluados por cuatro evaluadores distintos. Posteriormente, se analizaron el número de palabras y párrafos, la cohesión del texto en número y tipos de marcadores del discurso y la estructura retórica del texto.
Los resultados de esta investigación son los siguientes: (1) no aparecen diferencias significativas en la evaluación de los textos escritos en inglés y en español; (2) no existe ninguna diferencia en cuando al número de palabras utilizado en las dos lenguas en ninguno de los tres tipos de textos, pero sí hay una diferencia considerable en el número de párrafos, con una mayor cantidad en los textos en español, especialmente en los textos argumentativos y expositivos; (3) hay una diferencia significativa en el número de marcadores del discurso entre las dos lenguas exclusivamente en los textos argumentativos, y especialmente en relación con los marcadores conjuntivos; (4) no existen diferencias significativas en la organización de los textos; (5) existe una fuerte relación entre la puntuación obtenida por los textos y el uso que se haga del modelo textual correspondiente.
Tomando como referencia estas conclusiones, se plantean una serie de recomendaciones para la didáctica de la escritura en lengua materna y lengua extranjera.},
abstract = {The dissertation “Contrastive Rhetoric and Written Expression:
Evaluation and Study of Texts in English and Spanish” has two main
objectives: first, to review the line of research known as Contrastive
Rhetoric from a critical perspectiv; second, to study the differences and
similarities between texts written in English and Spanish, trying to find out
whether there is a relationship between the linguistic-cultural origin of
writers, the texts they produce and the marks they receive when
assessed. Thus, a corpus of texts was written and collected by two
groups of 17 to 18 year-old North-american and Spanish students. The
chosen texts were argumentative, expositive and narrative. These texts
were blindly assessed by four different raters. Then, they were analyzed
in terms of number or words, paragraphs, cohesion, discourse markers
and rhetorical structure.
The results of this research are as follows: 1) no statistically
meaningful difference was found in the assessment of the texts written in
English and Spanish; 2) no statistically meaningful difference was found
in the number of words, but there was a meaningful difference in the
number of paragraphs, larger in Spanish texts, particularly in
argumentative and expositive texts; 3) there is a meaningful difference in
the number of discourse markers in argumentative texts, particularly in
relation to conjunctive markers; 4) there is no meaningful difference in the
organization of the texts; 5) there is a stron correlation between the mark
received in assessment and the use of the suitable textual model.
Considering these conclusions, a number of suggestions are made
in relation to the teaching of writing both in L1 and L2.},
