The data were recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1). Events with two photons in the wellinstrumented region of the detector are selected. The photons are required to be isolated and have a transverse momentum of p(T,gamma 1(2)) > 40 (30) GeV for the leading (sub-leading) photon. The differential cross sections as functions of several observables for the diphoton system are measured and compared with theoretical predictions from state-of-the-art Monte Carlo and fixed-order calculations. The QCD predictions from next-to-next-to-leadingorder calculations and multi-leg merged calculations are able to describe the measured integrated and differential cross sections within uncertainties, whereas lower-order calculations show significant deviations, demonstrating that higher-order perturbative QCD corrections are crucial for this process. The resummed predictions with parton showers additionally provide an excellent description of the low transverse-momentum regime of the diphoton system.}, organization = {ANPCyT}, organization = {YerPhI, Armenia}, organization = {Australian Research Council}, organization = {BMWFW, Austria Austrian Science Fund (FWF)}, organization = {Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS)}, organization = {SSTC, Belarus}, organization = {Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cientifico e Tecnologico (CNPQ) Fundacao de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de Sao Paulo (FAPESP)}, organization = {Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)}, organization = {NRC, Canada Canada Foundation for Innovation}, organization = {CERN}, organization = {ANID, Chile}, organization = {Chinese Academy of Sciences Ministry of Science and Technology, China National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)}, organization = {Minciencias, Colombia}, organization = {Ministry of Education, Youth & Sports - Czech Republic Czech Republic Government}, organization = {DNRF, Denmark Danish Natural Science Research Council}, organization = {Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) CEA-DRF/IRFU, France}, organization = {SRNSFG, Georgia}, organization = {Federal Ministry of Education & Research (BMBF) HGF, Germany Max Planck Society}, organization = {GSRI, Greece}, organization = {RGC, China Hong Kong SAR, China}, organization = {Israel Science Foundation Benoziyo Center, Israel}, organization = {Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN)}, organization = {Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan (MEXT) Japan Society for the Promotion of Science}, organization = {CNRST, Morocco}, organization = {Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) Netherlands Government}, organization = {RCN, Norway}, organization = {MEiN, Poland}, organization = {Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology European Commission}, organization = {MNE/IFA, Romania}, organization = {JINR}, organization = {Russian Federation NRC KI, Russian Federation}, organization = {Ministry of Education, Science & Technological Development, Serbia}, organization = {MSSR, Slovakia}, organization = {Slovenian Research Agency - Slovenia MIZS, Slovenia}, organization = {DSI/NRF, South Africa}, organization = {Spanish Government}, organization = {SRC, Sweden Wallenberg Foundation, Sweden}, organization = {SERI, Switzerland Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Canton of Bern, Switzerland}, organization = {Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan}, organization = {Ministry of Energy & Natural Resources - Turkey}, organization = {UK Research & Innovation (UKRI)}, organization = {Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC)}, organization = {United States Department of Energy (DOE)}, organization = {National Science Foundation (NSF)}, organization = {BCKDF, Canada CANARIE, Canada Compute Canada, Canada CRC, Canada}, organization = {COST, European Union European Research Council (ERC) ERDF, European Union Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, European Union Horizon 2020, European Union}, organization = {French National Research Agency (ANR)}, organization = {German Research Foundation (DFG) Alexander von Humboldt Foundation}, organization = {Herakleitos programme Aristeia programme European Commission Greek NSRF, Greece}, organization = {BSF-NSF, Israel German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development}, organization = {Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, Norway}, organization = {NCN, Poland Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA)}, organization = {La Caixa Banking Foundation, Spain CERCA Programme Generalitat de Catalunya, Spain GenT Programme Generalitat Valenciana, Spain}, organization = {Goran Gustafssons Stiftelse, Sweden}, organization = {Leverhulme Trust}, organization = {Royal Society of London}, organization = {Canton of Geneva, Switzerland}, organization = {PROMETEO Programme Generalitat Valenciana, Spain}, organization = {Thales Group}, publisher = {Springer}, keywords = {Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments)}, keywords = {Photon production}, keywords = {Proton-proton scattering}, keywords = {QCD}, title = {Measurement of the production cross section of pairs of isolated photons in pp collisions at 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector}, doi = {10.1007/JHEP11(2021)169}, author = {Aad, G. and Aguilar Saavedra, Juan Antonio and Rodríguez Chala, Mikael and Atlas Collaboration}, }
