abstract = {El presente ensayo estudia la cama contemporánea y sus transformaciones recientes a raíz de una alteración en la noción de privacidad promovida por la adquisición de nuevos hábitos vinculados a las prácticas digitales. Para ello, se establece una comparación entre la cama actual y la reacción del escritorio a la democratización de la alfabetización en las sociedades occidentales entre los siglos XVI y XVIII que derivó en la entrada del libro en las viviendas. Ambas situaciones se producen en momentos de cambios culturales análogos, en los que las piezas de mobiliario tienden a delimitarse y amueblarse con espacios de almacenamiento y accesorios para adquirir la configuración de una estancia en el espacio doméstico como expresión de apropiación de un lugar, y de una creciente demanda de privacidad, como consecuencia del incremento de su uso y del carácter de su entorno.},
abstract = {This essay studies the contemporary bed and its recent changes as a result of an alteration in the meaning of privacy fostered by new household habits related with digital practices. To tackle this research the current bed is compared with how the desk responded to the spread of literacy in the western world from the 16th to 18th Century resulting in the incorporation of the books into the common houses. Both situations took place in similar periods of changing living conditions, in which the pieces of furniture tend to form a delimited area fitted with storage spaces and other accessories in a room-like configuration within the domestic area as an expresión of taking possesion of the place and the growing demand for privacy, due to the increasing functions of the furniture and the character of their immediate surroundings.},
