abstract = {El 25 de diciembre de 1884 un terremoto de gran intensidad sacudió la zona central de Andalucía. El seísmo provocó daños cuantiosos en muchas poblaciones, llegando a arrasar comple-tamente algunas de ellas.
En los años siguientes, la Administración tendría que hacer frente al grave problema de la reconstrucción de los pueblos afectados. Su actuación no fue del todo satisfactoria y muchas veces, sobre todo al principio, se mostró impotente. Pero fi-nalmente supo afianzar su liderazgo para coordinar las iniciati-vas particulares y llevar a cabo ella misma actuaciones ur-banísticas de gran calado.
Restablecido el orden tras este notable esfuerzo, los responsa-bles procuraron difundir lo que habían hecho. Su descripción de los nuevos barrios y pueblos, materializada en planos, foto-grafías y otros documentos, aporta una valiosa información sobre los aspectos técnicos (urbanísticos, arquitectónicos y de Ingeniería) de la reconstrucción. Pero al mismo tiempo reflejan una clara intencionalidad política, mostrando estas actuaciones como ejemplo del buen desempeño del poder por parte de la Administración (tan necesitada de estos ejemplos en la nueva andadura del régimen de la Restauración).
En la comunicación se reflexionará con mayor profundidad sobre esta dualidad técnico-política de las descripciones. Así mismo, se dedicará también atención a su soporte material, a las propias características de los documentos (planos y foto-grafías) como elementos historiográficos.

On December 25, 1884 an earthquake of great intensity shook the central zone of Andalusia. The earth tremor caused sub-stantial damages in many populations, managing to devastate completely some of them.
In the following years, the Administration would have to face to the serious problem of the reconstruction of the affected popu-lations. Her performance was not completely satisfactory and often, especially originally, felt powerless. But finally she could guarantee her leadership to coordinate the particular initia-tives and to carry out by herself her urban development far-reaching performances.
Restored the order after this notable effort, the persons in charge tried to spread what they had done. His description of the new districts and villages, materialized in planes, photographies and other documents, contributes a valuable information about the technical aspects (urban development, architectural and of Engineering) of the reconstruction. But at the same time they reflect a clear political premeditation, show-ing these actions as example of the good performance of the exercise of authority by the Administration (so needed from these examples in the new gait of the Restoration’s regime).
In the communication this duality of the descriptions will be focused. Likewise, we will dedicate also attention to his materi-al support, to the own characteristics of the documents (maps and photographies) as historical elements.},
