abstract = {Los objetivos de este Trabajo Fin de Máster han sido caracterizar el estilo del compositor
español Manuel Castillo a través de el análisis musical de sus obras para violonchelo y piano,
estudiar el contexto y origen de estas obras, y analizar la repercusión en la prensa de sus estrenos
y posteriores interpretaciones. Se ha podido establecer que estas composiciones están basadas
en estructuras musicales tradicionales como la forma sonata o la forma ternaria, incorporan
procedimientos compositivos provenientes de la música serial, y aprovechan con destreza la
expresividad y el carácter melódico del violonchelo. Los dedicatarios de dos de estas obras
fueron dos destacados violonchelistas: el español Pedro Corostola y el mexicano Carlos Prieto.
De este estudio se puede concluir que estas obras son ejemplos paradigmáticos del estilo de
Castillo y aúnan algunas de las principales características de su música: su elocuencia y un
lenguaje musical fácilmente asimilable por la audiencia. En definitiva, este trabajo se suma a la
colección de investigaciones publicadas sobre las obras de Castillo, y es una primera aportación
para el conocimiento y la divulgación de estas sofisticadas y equilibradas composiciones.},
abstract = {The aims of this dissertation were to characterize the style of the Spanish composer
Manuel Castillo by means of a musical analysis of his works for cello and piano, to study the
context and origin of these compositions, as well as to analyze the impact in the press of their
premieres and subsequent performances. It has been found that these works are based on
traditional musical structures such as the sonata form and the ternary form, the composer
employs occasionally compositional procedures originating from the serial music, and
skillfully exploits the expressiveness and melodic nature of the cello. Two of these works were
composed for two prominent cellists, the Spaniard Pedro Corostola and the Mexican Carlos
Prieto. The findings of this study suggest that these compositions are archetypal examples of
the composer’s style and seem to confirm some of the qualities of Castillo’s music: its eloquence
and a musical language that is effortlessly assimilated by the audience. In conclusion, this study
adds to a growing body of literature on Castillo’s compositions and it is also the first step
towards improving the understanding of these well-proportioned and refined works.},
