abstract = {Los profesionales Irlen alrededor del mundo han venido utilizando la Escala Perceptual de
Lectura Irlen (EPLI) como instrumento de valoración en la determinación de la presencia de
Malestares Físicos al Leer (MFL) y Distorsiones Visuales Perceptuales (DVP) en diferentes
poblaciones, sin embargo, se presentan varios cuestionamientos sobre su validez y fiabilidad. El objetivo principal de este estudio fue precisamente analizar las propiedades psicométricas de la sección 1 del EPLI por medio del análisis factorial y el alfa de Cronbach en
una población infantil ecuatoriana. Los participantes fueron 409 escolares de 7 a 11 años
de la zona urbana de Cuenca, Ecuador. Los resultados apuntan a que las dos dimensiones
teóricas de MFL y DVP se comportan como cinco sub-dimensiones empíricas que respetan y
se acomodan a estas dos dimensiones teóricas. Estos datos ayudan al mejoramiento tanto
del diagnóstico del Síndrome Irlen (SI) como de la intervención en estos malestares y dificultades con el Método Irlen (MI).},
abstract = {The Irlen Reading Perceptual Scale (IRPS) has been used as an assessment instrument to
determine the presence of Irlen Syndrome (IS; Physical Discomfort [PD] and Visual Perceptual Distortions [VPD]) worldwide. However, there are questionings about the validity
and Reliability of the instrument. The main objective of the present study was to test the
psychometrics of the section 1 of the IRPS for Ecuadorian children populations. Participants
were 409 schoolchildren from 7 to 11 years old from the urban area of Cuenca, Ecuador. A
factorial analysis was carried out on the 32 items of section 1 of the IRSP. Alfa of Cronbach
was used to evaluate the reliability of the dimensions that the factor analysis drew. As a
result, five empirical dimensions instead of the two theoretical dimensions were found.
Nevertheless, these five dimensions fit properly in the two theoretical dimensions. This instrument can be used both for evaluation of the IS and for the intervention with the Irlen
Method (IM).},
