Sin embargo, estos vínculos se transforman con el tiempo. Para dar cuenta de esto, las víctimas no son una noción lejana cuyo tratamiento converge en el sufrimiento de la tortura; por el contrario, en los trabajos de Colorado y Echavarría las víctimas son cercanas, tienen nombre y biografía, relaciones afectivas y comunitarias.
