abstract = {Después de unas décadas de abandono, la biografía histórica como género historiográfico ha resurgido con fuerza en los últimos veinticinco años, también en el campo americanista, debido sobre todo a dos circunstancias: el entorno del Quinto Centenario del descubrimiento de América, por un lado, y la historia regional por otro, que suscita el interés hacia las personalidades históricas de las distintas regiones y localidades peninsulares. En el presente trabajo se hace un repaso a la biografía histórica de los distintos actores de la América colonial en sus diferentes etapas hasta la independencia, señalando los logros más relevantes y algunas de sus limitaciones.},
abstract = {After decades of neglect, historic biography has strongly re-emerged as a historiographic
genre in the past twentyfive years. The reasons of this revival in americanist circles come from two circumstances mainly: first, the vicinity of the Fifth centennial of the Discovery of America, and, second, regional history, which has aroused some interest over historical figures from different regions and towns in the Peninsula. This paper offers a review of the historic biography of several actors in Colonial Hispanic América along their various stages up to independence, and points out their relevant successes and some of their limitations.},
