abstract = {Este artículo analiza la perspectiva de Galeno de Pérgamo sobre la embriología y su estrecha relación con el debate moral sobre el aborto en la Antigüedad. A través del estudio de obras como De semine y De foetuum formatione, se explora cómo Galeno, influido por la filosofía aristotélica, describe el desarrollo fetal desde un enfoque epigenético y teleológico. El trabajo examina la rica variedad terminológica empleada para definir tanto "lo engendrado" como los procesos de aborto, ya sean espontáneos o inducidos. Asimismo, se establece un diálogo entre el pensamiento médico-filosófico de Galeno y el tratado pseudogalénico An animal sit quod est in utero, el cual defiende que el feto es un ser vivo desde la concepción. El análisis revela la transición desde la observación anatómica científica hacia una preocupación moral y filosófica que sentaría las bases para reflexiones posteriores en el pensamiento cristiano.},
abstract = {This article analyses Galen of Pergamon’s perspective on embryology and its close relationship with the moral debate on abortion in Antiquity. Through the study of works such as De semine and De foetuum formatione, it explores how Galen, influenced by Aristotelian philosophy, describes foetal development from an epigenetic and teleological approach. The paper examines the rich terminological variety used to define both ‘that which is begotten’ and the processes of abortion, whether spontaneous or induced. Furthermore, it establishes a dialogue between Galen’s medical-philosophical thought and the pseudo-Galenic treatise An animal sit quod est in utero, which argues that the foetus is a living being from conception. The analysis reveals the transition from scientific anatomical observation towards a moral and philosophical concern that would lay the foundations for subsequent reflections in Christian thought.},
