abstract = {Resumé: Cet article examine les circonstances dans lesquelles les ports des deux rives du détroit de Gibraltar se sont développés. Il soulève également la question du degré de précision des informations qui ont circulé parmi les géographes et historiens arabes entre le septième et dixième siècle. La recherche a conclut que l'information est limitée à ce qui était connue des Romains, étant donné que les zones concernée sont la côte sud, entre Oran et Larache, et la côte nord, entre Almeria et Aljaziras. La navigation dans cette zone dependait étroitement des initiatives personnelles, un fait justifié par la peur de la mer après l'effondrement de l'empire romain, les attaques des Normands au cours du neuvième siècle, et plus tard, pour raison de préoccupation des autorités locales par la préservation de son pouvoir à Al-Andalous, ainsi que dans le Maroc. Toutefois, les autorités, descendent sur les côtes dans le dixième siècle. Par conséquent, la navigation dans le détroit s’eppanouit officiellement et stratégiquement (Almeria).
Abstract: This research paper discusses the circumstances in which the ports of both sides of the Strait of Gibraltar developed. It also raises the question of how accurate was the information circulated among geographers and Arab historians between the seventh and tenth centuries. The research concludes that the information was constrained to what was previously known from the Romans, given that the areas concerned were the southern coasts, between Oran and Larach, and the northern coast, between Almeria and Aljaziras. It seems that navigation in this area was closely bound up by the control of personal initiatives since people were afraid of the sea after the collapse of the Roman empire, the attacks of the Normans during the ninth century, and later because of the preoccupation of the local authorities with the preservation of its power in Al-Andalous as well as in Morocco. The authorities, however, went down the coasts in the tenth century resulting, therefore, in the blossoming of navigation in the Strait officially and strategically (Almeria).},
