abstract = {El género y la vejez son categorías culturales fundamentales para analizar cómo operan las estructuras de poder y dominación. Sin embargo, la arti-culación entre ambas ha sido poco explorada. En este trabajo se propone un estudio del envejecimiento diferencial desde una perspectiva de géne-ro, mostrando que no es lo mismo envejecer siendo hombre que siendo mujer. Se abordará la visión histórica del envejecimiento construidos bajo un imaginario patriarcal que sostiene la idea de que “serás joven o no serás nada”. Asimismo, se revisarán las principales teorías sociológicas del enveje-cimiento y la influencia de las ciencias anglófonas e hispanohablantes que han generado avances pero también importantes vacíos. Las aportaciones feministas llegaron tarde y ocuparon un lugar marginal, frente al predomi-nio médico-biologicista, que impactó en el diseño de las políticas públicas desde parámetros masculinos. Superar estas limitaciones requiere de una gerontología feminista que reconozca la diversidad del envejecimiento y visibilice a las mujeres mayores.},
abstract = {Gender and old age are fundamental cultural categories for analyzing how structures of power and domination operate. However, the articulation between the two has been little explored. This paper proposes a study of differential aging from a gender perspective, showing that aging as a man is not the same as a woman. It addresses the historical view of aging cons-tructed under a patriarchal imaginary that sustains the idea that “you will be young or you will be nothing.” It also reviews the main sociological theories of aging and the influence of English- and Spanish-speaking sciences, which have generated advances but also left significant gaps. Feminist contributions arrived late and occupied a marginal place, compared to the predominance of medical and biological approaches, which impacted the design of public policies based on male parameters. Overcoming these limitations requires a feminist gerontology that recognizes the diversity of aging and makes older women visible.},
