investigadores en las últimas décadas. No obstante, las investigaciones se han centrado en el
conflicto mediterráneo con el Islam, especialmente durante los reinados de Felipe II y Felipe III,
y en temas como los renegados y las relaciones con el norte de África. La fragmentación de la
documentación ha generado una visión distorsionada del fenómeno, minimizando las actividades
ligadas a esta práctica. Sin embargo, estudios recientes muestran la vitalidad y complejidad de
la redención de cautivos en Andalucía, como evidencia la liberación de cristianos en Tetuán en
1523 que presentamos, que revela una estructura redentora activa y bien organizada.},
abstract = {The redemption of captives has been an activity that has captured the attention of various
researchers in recent decades. However, the investigations have focused on the Mediterranean
conflict with Islam, especially during the reigns of Philip II and Philip III, and on topics such as
renegades and relations with North Africa. The fragmentation of the documentation has generated a distorted view of the phenomenon, minimizing the activities associated with this practice.
Nevertheless, recent studies show the vitality and complexity of the redemption of captives in
Andalusia, as evidenced by the liberation of Christians in Tetouan in 1523, which we present,
revealing an active and well-organized redemption structure.},
