abstract = {The chapter aims to introduce and describe the phenomenon of perceptual learning and its relevance to aesthetic learning, in order to show how it may be useful when addressing other issues—specifically, a widely debated problem in recent aesthetic literature that concerns the epistemic status of critical discourse. The problem concerns whether critical discourse about aesthetic matters should be conceived as an argumentative practice that begins from certain premises and rationally leads to a conclusion, or rather as an invitation to experience an object (typically a work of art or, more broadly, an artistic performance) in a certain way. Both intuitions seem to capture important aspects of criticism that, ideally, one would want to preserve equally in a satisfactory theoretical account, yet they clash with each other. The hypothesis we will attempt to pursue here is whether the notion of perceptual learning sketched above can mitigate this seemingly inescapable tension.},
abstract = {El capítulo busca introducir y detallar el fenómeno del aprendizaje perceptivo, y su relevancia para el aprendizaje estético, para mostrar cómo puede ser útil a la hora de tratar otras cuestiones, en concreto, un problema muy debatido en la literatura estética reciente y que atañe al estatus epistémico del discurso crítico. El problema atañe a si el discurso crítico sobre cuestiones estéticas debe concebirse como una práctica argumentativa que parte de determinadas premisas y conduce racionalmente a una conclusión, o más bien como una invitación a experimentar un objeto (típicamente, una obra de arte o, más ampliamente, una actuación artística) de cierta manera. Ambas intuiciones parecen captar aspectos importantes de la crítica que, idealmente, se debiera querer preservar por igual en una propuesta teórica satisfactoria pero chocan entre sí. La hipótesis que intentaremos se-guir aquí es si la noción de aprendizaje perceptivo que esbozábamos arriba puede mitigar este contraste aparentemente ineludible.},
