abstract = {In this chapter Albarrán studies how al-Qāḍī ‘Iyāḍ, author of the Kitāb al-Shifā’, a Islamic world’s bestseller, became a symbol with numerous edges that overlapped with others like al-Ghazālī or Ibn Tūmart, and how his death became a place of memory. In this sense, the figure of ‘Iyāḍ, distilled through his death, experienced processes of appropriation and re-reading from many angles, just as had happened with his own work, the Shifā’. Through the remembrance of al-Qāḍī ‘Iyāḍ’s death in different narrative genealogies that transport the reader across the Mediterranean and beyond, Albarrán analyzes diverse ways of writing and imagining the past in various contexts, and explains how different identity groups, like Sufis of Maliki scholars, remembered this “significant past” and gave a meaning to it.},
abstract = {En este capítulo, Albarrán estudia cómo al-Qāḍī ‘Iyāḍ, autor del Kitāb al-Shifā’, un auténtico superventas del mundo islámico, se convirtió en un símbolo de múltiples aristas que se superponían a otras figuras como al-Ġazālī o Ibn Tūmart, y cómo su muerte llegó a ser un lugar de memoria. En este sentido, la figura de ‘Iyāḍ, destilada a través de su muerte, experimentó procesos de apropiación y relectura desde numerosas perspectivas, del mismo modo que había ocurrido con su propia obra, el Shifā’. A través del recuerdo de la muerte de al-Qāḍī ‘Iyāḍ en diferentes genealogías narrativas que transportan al lector por todo el Mediterráneo y más allá, Albarrán analiza diversas formas de escribir e imaginar el pasado en distintos contextos y explica cómo diferentes grupos identitarios, como sufíes o ulemas malikíes, recordaron este “pasado significativo” y le otorgaron un sentido.},
