abstract = {En las sociedades marítimas, los relatos de naufragios se utilizaron
como mecanismos de enunciación histórica con los que proyectar
valores individuales y justificar decisiones colectivas. En la
memoria del desastre surgían protagonistas y eventos, cuyas
causas y consecuencias podían ser orientadas como recurso
político e instrumento de negociación. En este ensayo se
estudian los sucesos en torno al accidente del bergantín El
Sandoval, correo marítimo entre La Habana y Veracruz, que
naufragó en el Golfo de México en 1787, cuya relación fue
empleada por funcionarios insatisfechos de la Real Hacienda de
Nueva España para reivindicar un mejor trato por parte de la
Corona española. Se estudian los recursos narrativos, los aspectos
navales del desastre y la instrumentalización del relato de
naufragio como dispositivo de negociación entre los funcionarios
y la Corona.},
abstract = {In maritime societies, shipwreck accounts were used as
mechanisms of historical enunciation with which to project
individual values and justify collective decisions. In the memory
of the disaster, protagonists and events emerged, whose causes
and consequences could be oriented as a political resource and
an instrument of negotiation. This essay studies the events
surrounding the accident of the brigantine El Sandoval, a mail
boat on the route between Havana and Veracruz, which sank in
the Gulf of Mexico in 1787, and whose account was used by
dissatisfied officials of the Royal Treasury of New Spain to
demand better treatment from the Spanish Crown. The narrative
resources, the naval aspects of the disaster and the
instrumentalization of the shipwreck account as a negotiation
device between officials and the Crown are dealt with in this study.},
