These compounds are found in a wide range of natural sources, particularly in plants, as well as in some fungi. Their biological properties are distinctive, as they combine antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and metabolic functions, which can be utilized for therapeutic purposes in humans. In this review, we identify the most relevant hydroxybenzoic and hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives for human applications, explain their common and specific mechanisms of action, and highlight their applications in significant preclinical and clinical studies.}, organization = {Junta de Andalucía (Grants: PEER-0083-2020 and PI-0203-2024)}, organization = {MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 (PID2021-126788OB100)}, organization = {Ministerio de Universidades}, organization = {Consejería de Universidad, Investigación e Innovación (Qual21-002) - Junta de Andalucía}, publisher = {MDPI}, keywords = {Hydroxybenzoic acid}, keywords = {Hydroxycinnamic acids}, keywords = {Therapeutic applications}, title = {Natural Hydroxybenzoic and Hydroxycinnamic Acids Derivatives: Mechanisms of Action and Therapeutic Applications}, doi = {10.3390/antiox14060711}, author = {López-Herrador, Sergio and Corral-Sarasa, Julia and González-García, Pilar and Morillas-Morota, Yaco and Olivieri, Enrica and Jiménez-Sánchez, Laura and Díaz-Casado, María Elena}, }
